Well, I've finally got the flu. What a bizarre and yet blessed thing to feel pain that's... normal. Basic, human pain from a feverish headache and scratchy throat. Aching muscles. The pain of living every person knows. A kind, benevolent pain.
I am in bed, though some work is still undone, in the warm twists of my blanket - and so content! My eyes are burning, my body is aching, my head feels like it will spill if I move it, and for the first time in months I don't hate the shell that I am in.

Only someone who has chronic illness and pain would understand the comfort of having a "normal" illness such as the flu. At least you're having a "normal" something! Nothing wrong with this picture... It's just a different picture.
