Interesting! Mood
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 | A Rambling story

I am often bewildered by the power of the people these days. How much will you want changes to a healthy lifestyle. I earnestly think that most people choose a healthier lifestyle vs. laissez-faire mentality.  Often we think, I'll just have 1 potato chip--oh two won't hurt and by the time we're done, we've eaten the entire bag!!! Then we get into a rut--a hole we are unable, unwilling and unsure of how to get out of and we find ourselves overweight and unable to get back on track. So what some people do is get mired into the muck.

Well, I guess I'm a pig because I wallow in the muck. Then I am done and take corrective positive actions to change...

Well, I have been involved in health care reform for 3 months now. I nose dived into it because I am all about community service. What I found is too much politics by people who are NOT working with the health of people or dealing consistently with their health issues.  It is sad because when you don't have your health, what do you have, really?

The other issue is while health care is an empassioned subject matter where most people have full input or stories, people are preaching without attempting to practice what they preach.  Namely, physical fitness on its lowest form--like walking for 30 minutes.  Sure, we need reduced costs, guarenteed choice and quality and affordable healthcare. But we also need patient self-management--the choice to live healthier--stop smoking, increase fitness, and choose healthy food options, like fruits/vegetables and grains vs. fried fatty fast foods...

People preach all of this, but when you ask them to practice it, where are they? I started a "Walk and Talk" at 7:30 AM to a nearby park of at least 1.5 miles. I only get 2-3 people attending! And it is not due to people having to work--but due to people being lazy--not wanting to get up early in the morning to exercise. Exercise does not necessarily have to be in a gym to say it was exercise. And I am a strong supporter of mindfulness medication, relaxation, de-stressing techniques is essential for all fitness programs. RARELY does any personal trainer include that aspect into regimens, it is possible most do not know how to do that--it isn't just cool down for a few minutes. It is the actualization of really understanding breath technique. Maybe a yoga instructor knows, but they do not know how to make the aerobic moves, that a high impact class often offers. It lack holistic understanding--they do not get this information in school to pass it forward!

That breeds cultural incompetency.

So, true practicing, preaching health care reform to a prevention wellness model will incorporate a holistic healing and healthier thinking component for the masses.
