Collaboration... Mood
Monday, April 27, 2009 | An Educational story

We in healthcare must collaborate.  It is no longer overriding another by competition.  A "tournament market" that is what I found out what research has lately become in a Science Magazine article.  How does that affect science, more specifically, biomedical research?

Dr. Vipak of Vidol, Inc. said it will take 6-9 months to generate a vaccine for swine flu.  By the time the vaccine rolls around, with the current projections, this flu is spreading exponetially with differential equations...  Multiply the numbers by 10 or 100...  While the symptoms will be reduced in people vaccinated with previous flu vaccines, the symptoms will hit most people like a ton of bricks.

Panic it should not be...

Why?  Because there are true environmental barriers to some viruses.  Sometimes, mountains, cold climate, differing water minerals, etc.  Sure a virus can adapt, mutate and overcome some barriers, but, I have a feeling, there are barriers that it will not be AS infective as others and might be asymptomatic vs. others...

Basically, keep yourself and your living quarters clean!!!  Keep it clean!!!  Be reasonable about it, not OCD about it.  But, if you haven't washed, wiped your counters and mop your floors, now might be a good time to do so.  They don't call it Spring Cleaning for nothing!

WASH YOUR HANDS AT ALL TIMES!!!  ESPECIALLY BEFORE YOU PREPARE FOOD AND EAT!!! ALWAYS AFTER YOU USE THE RESTROOM!!!

I think the clincians have a 2 minute rule: turn the faucet on with lukewarm water, rinse your hands for ~30 seconds, turn the water off with your elbow, use soft soap with an alcohol base, scrub your hands for ~30 seconds using a "GI Joe Kung Fu Grip" action, get to your wrists.  Then with your elbow, turn on the lukewarm water, rise for ~30 seconds, dry with paper towels that can be easily pulled out of a dispenser, dry for ~30 seconds...  Turn water off with your elbows.

Pretend you are a surgeon when you do this....

Some people are just nasty
