So I went and had extensive bloodwork done to check everything from my THS, T3, T4 Reverse T3 and T4 Cortizol, etc. I just called the doctors office for the result and was told that I was only slightly hyperthyroid. I was also told that all my other bloodwork with the exception of my Vitamind D level, was normal to optimal. My doctor suggested that I continue on my current synthroid dose and that I take 1000 IU's of Vitamin D daily.
I then looked up the symptoms of Vitamin D Defficiciency (sp) and found that fatigue, mood swings, joint/bone pain, muscle weekness, sleeplessness, tinnitus and weight gain are signs of Vitamin D Defficiency and that Vitamin D Defficiency is directly related to the Parathyroid gland. Who knew? I'll be going to get some Vitamin D when I pick up my new synthroid prescription either tomorrow or the next day.
It will be interesting to see if this has been my problem all along.

This site has helped me to to talk to my new doctor and has given me hope. I still feel crappy, but I went to the doctor today and he actually listened. He said that while the numbers are important, my well-being and how I feel is also important. He said that although my TSH is at 14, if I feel great, he can live with the numbers because everyone is different. He also said, and rightfully so, that if my TSH level goes creeps up to 40, he will have to address the issue. I totally understand.
In the meantime, before he changes my dose of Synthroid again, he is going to do a lot of tests on my blood, including the T4, T3, Reverse T3, Cortisol and some other blood tests. Once the results are back we will go from there.
It is so nice to have hope for the first ime in 20 years.
I'll keep you posted.
I have been hypothyroid for over 20 years and have felt miserable for all but 2 short stints throughout those years. I recently received hope when I had my Sythroid dose changed and began cutting that in half too. My TSH numbers went way up (3 times normal) but I felt great for the first time in over 20 years. Now the doctor wants me to have "normal" numbers. He increased my dose and I feel lousy again. Real death due to increased cholesteral and osteoperosis; or living death which is worse? I think the latter!
How can I convince a doctor, any doctor that I don't care about my numbers anymore after 20 years of being miserable? I just want to live again.

Finally a doctor that is listening. I went from .088 mcg to .075 mcg to (self medicating)1/2 of .075 mcg to .05 mcg and now per the doctor's orders to alternating .05 mcg and 1/2 .05 mcg every other day. On .088 I felt really bad; at .075 I still felt bad; At 1/2 of .075 I felt great; at .05 I felt bad again; so far alternating between .05 and 1/2 of .05 I feel great again. But it has only been 2 days. I'll keep you posted.

OMG it is so funny that you say that, I too am vit D deficient, and was told this before, and put on a pill I take once a week, I can't say that any of my symptoms changed by taking the Vitimin D. I have also looked into the Parathyroid thing, and I can't get any doctors to listen to me when it comes to that either, so I kind of gave up on that diagnosis, and am working on an undertreated Hypothyroidism, but I have to admit I am not getting anywhere with that either. Please keep me posted, and thanks so much. I will keep you in my prayers.

Latest Update. I've developed a kidney stone. Not sure if it's related to the Vitamin D, or if it was forming before I started the "D". Either way, I sure hope it passes without too much trouble. There is not worse pain in the world (even childbirth). Everything else is still really good. Still not losing weight, but at least I have more energy (just in time to get ready for the holidays).
