Since I have decided to write my book about Rape, I have read through a lot of different books on the topic. Some were merely statistics, while others were stories from survivors. When I mentioned to my counsellor that I was interested in the topic for a book, she recommended some resources for me. I looked and looked for one of the books, but could never find it. This week I caved and bought it. It is the most interesting book I have read in a long time. It's called The Macho Paradox: Why some men hurt women and what all men can do to help, by Jackson Katz. It is a very good book that I recommend to men and women alike. It is put forth as a book steered towards men, that presents the fact that calling rape a women's issue puts the responsibility to help off men. He makes the claim that rape should be a people's issue; an issue of both genders, not just one. It's something that is not going to be able to stop until both genders join together. Not all men are bad, and this book is geared towards those who have a loved one going through or have gone through rape etc. and how to not just make it their issue. If you are the least bit interested in it, you should go out and get it and read it. It's a message that should be sent throughout our culture.
