    • About Me

I'm 51 years old and have been teaching elementary school for 29 years now. My husband and I have been married for 31 years and were blessed with 3 children who are now young adults. I'm a NEW grandmother of a precious little boy. Being a grandparent is fantastic, by the way! I also try to be active in my church working with the children.

Thanks for the hug, Sadie! I'm so glad you did well with your injection! Now you'll know what to expect when you get your other knee injected. Insurance companies. What can ya say about them, right? It's just too bad you couldn't have gotten both knees done on the same day! Wonder what their reasoning was to make you wait till next week to have your other knee done. Maybe they want to see how you'll do with the first knee. Anyway, I hope it helped you!

    • Close Arthritis

I've recently had arthroscopic knee surgery on my left knee. A lot of grade 3 and 4 arthritis was found and worked on. I'm now working on recovery. I started back to work Monday 12/1/08 but am having a hard time walking the long hallways with crutches, especially since my "good" knee is acting out now.

    • Close Fibromyalgia

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 20 years ago after having my twin girls. It took my finally pitching a fit in a doctor's office in order to get a serious diagnosis. Until then I was just looked at as a hypochondriac. Presently I am able to work as a teacher and function with some medicines and as much sleep as I can get. It is a daily struggle though. Complications with osteoarthritis and diabetes have made my life even harder.

      Treatments

      Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
Water therapy at a local gym. It worked great but I had to discontinue due to needing knee surgery.
      Cyclobenzaprine Not Working
I didn't like how it made me feel "zonked out".
      Cymbalta Not Working
I discontinued its use and went back to my regular med, prozac.
      Heat Working / Worked
The moist heat feels so good when I'm having spasms and pain.
      Lyrica Not Working
It made me have trouble functioning in my job as a teacher. I couldn't think clearly.
      Neurontin Working / Worked
I am taking a low dose once a day right now.
      Ultram Working / Worked
This medicine has been my miracle. It is why I'm able to continue to work as a teacher. I take 2 fifty mg about 3 times a day.
      Zanaflex Working / Worked
I take a 4 mg pill every night. It has greatly helped me. I especially like how I don't feel hung over the next day.
      Mevacor Working / Worked
I take one each night for high cholesterol. It has already made a difference in my lab work.
      Actos Working / Worked
I take 30 mg each day and my A1C has greatly improved with the actos combined with the lantus.
      Fosamax Working / Worked
After just being diagnosed with osteopenia I have recently begun this medication.

    • Open Chronic Pain

I've lived with chronic pain for so many years. I believe a lot of my symptoms began after my thyroid stopped working but wasn't diagnosed for many months. Years later I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and arthritis.

      Treatments

      Cymbalta Not Working
Started out working, but soon didn't help at all.
      Heat Working / Worked
Moist heat from the therapeutic pillows you heat in the microwave help the most.
      Lyrica Not Working
      Made me have trouble functioning
      Mobic Not Working
      I swelled badly.
      Naproxen Not Working
Felt no help at all. It was like taking a sugar pill.
      Neurontin Working / Worked
I take one at night but they make it hard to wake up.
      Oxycodone Working / Worked
I have only been given this from time to time. I use it only when I can't stand the pain anymore. My doctor who use to give me the prescription has moved though. My new physician is a nurse practitioner so I don't think she can write prescriptions for it.
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
      Just started this again.
