When it comes to finance/collections/bankruptcy, its a federal law that applies to all states. The rules do not vary from state to state. If you live in the US, there is no limit to how many garnishments can be against you and they can take everything up to $155.00 a week of your income. I would like to be worry free over christmas, but I cant. I dont even know if my lights will still be on at christmas and i'll likely be out of oil by then and right now, its 12 degrees out. I applied to every program out there, but since I made too much money last year, I dont qualify. I've been disabled and out of work for 6 months now, but they use last years tax return to determine eligibility.

i've been to court - twice already. I was out of work and just recently out of surgery on full disability and I lost. It does not matter that you have no income - if you owe the money, the lender is entitled to repayment. As for the number of garnishements, there is no limit. The federal law is that they can take everything up to $155.00 a week - meaning anything over $155.00 a week that you make, they can take because that's federal poverty level. I will lose - no doubt about it.

It's a pleasure to meet you Tania. I asked my surgeon if I could be a bit shorter, after the last fusion; because I am tall (183cm). Like you, he said "No, sorry you'll actually be a bit taller! I need a giraffe-ectomy! How's things? I hope each day is a little better for you. I needed lots of little questions and queries answered after my fusion and did'nt really have anyone around much who could give me information. I must admit I did find it's a bit like climbing a huge mountain, you just have to take so many little steps to reach the top! I kept wanting to hurry up the whole healing process up and regularly got frustrated or was worried that maybe all was not OK. I You actually sound like you are doing well all considering. Have you got some help at home, so that you are able to rest up regularly? I had to wipe Christmas last year because I had my surgery on the 1st Dec 2007; it's a little harder when you have "littlies" like you,so try not to wear yourself out. All the best.

It's good that they want to do an X-ray on your you - at least they are taking your seriously! Also, if they want to put you in a nueorlogical study, it may be that some drug Co., or a University Med. School is running it - in which case they may not charge you anything for taking part. I'd ask them about that - as you have gone deeply into debt re. the operation. With luck, there may be no more costs involved - but ask them questions: write down what you want to know as soon as you think of anything - then hit them with whatever is worrying you. Hope nothing's broken my dear, Fond regards, JaneD.

Don't let what that idiot Dr. said to you re. addiction worry you! It's just routine stuff - & they are just so tactless! I'd be upset too (my elder d. was addicted to heroin yeears ago - her ex. got her on it: he controlled her that way: she's just terrified of having to live alone, that when she'd refuse to give him money (she worked for an Embassy in Canberra, our Capital), he'd say he would leave her (dunno where he'd go -his Mum didi't want him). But she had to leave job - to go with him to Provincial city, where he got a job that he wasn't really qualified for (the Mother-in-law pushed for that one- I think she wanted them out of Canberra) He only lasted a week - had to send petrol money up, so they'd get back. His Mum refused to have them in the house, even tho' it was middle of winter. Mutual friend pleaded with her, so she took them in - and charged them full commercial board rates - he got onto a methodone program. She's fine now - no problems with drugs, but the current partner is a total creep - just out of Jail end of August: he's got emphysymia, so may not last much longer - I no longer go up there. He's nothing but trouble, but always behaves until he's gotten really bored - then he's into drugs. She's working 3 half-days, so he'll be wanting money soon! She sent me a card today - thanking me for the $50. I sent her - & telling me she bought a Rice cooker. We are lucky that we have a National Medical Scheme, and Pharmaceutical one - since I'm a Pensioner, I pay only $5.00 for my meds. I don't have to pay rent, tho' the house needs a bit doing to it right now - it can wait. I've lost my best friend - she's finally got a place. Rent is high here, as we have been going through a mining boom, and have had very high immigration the past few years - but insufficient houses have been built - some people are loosing theirs - it must be terrifying. I've been seeing this coming - have warned people, but nobody listens. So have saved a bit, & just cleared my bills. I am just unable to believe that my younger d. can be 2 blocks away (they are on holiday), and not let me see the kids - my neighbour took gifts down, but there was no message - just got told that I am "the most self- absorbed woman she's ever known" - I've heard that phrase applied to her Dad's sister by more than 1 person, and I think it is true (though I don't say so). that's where she's got it from. I did all I could (esp. babysitting) when she was at University doing her Science Degree, and now I cop this crap! He is a rotten little creep.I think he had me set up to babysit the younger one 2 days per week, so he could work full time on 2 days. And I went & got hospitalized with migraines! How totally inconsiderate of me!!! I've practically decided I will go to Adelaide - I have 3 other friends there too: the friends I had here all died young-middle aged, as did my sister (in her case it was a blessing) I won't have to worry about younger d's being here, with kids, and being unable to see them - & she's got no reason to go to Adel. Be very careful when lifting your little fella, and if you can manage it, just don't. I have your other address, & will write during the holidays. Hope I get it right. Take care of yourself now, Fond regards, JaneD.

Sad to hear tht you are not getting out of the woods as quickly as you (& all of us) had hoped. But the Pain Clinc should really help - if they are genuine then I'm sure you will benefit. I had facial nerve, damaged in surgery, treaed at Pain Clinc - after too much General messing around. Had injections into the nerve itself - fter a few times, when the painkller wore off, it was inflamed & I was furious, but after a coupe of weeks, it quieted down, & is now about 95% nortmal. No more injections, and no more infra-orbital neuralgia. Hang in there my dear. Fond regards, JaneD.

Thanks for your message. Sounds like we are going through the same thing. A word of caution... maybe this wont happen to you, but when I sent letters to the bill collectors telling them to stop calling me, they immediately sued me. I have 4 court dates between now and february 10th. They know their only chance to collect is to put pressure over the phone. Once you take that away, they immediately turn it over to the legal dept. Now I wish I just let the calls continue and not answer it. Not sure what will happen in court since I've been our of work since july 25th with broken bones in my back, but i'm sure the day I return to work, I will have 4 or more wage garnishments against me. I just cant get ahead.

My husband never had one and I'm surprised he wants to get one. Maybe you can work on your husband he may change his mind. See if he wants to get one with you. I think it is kind of cool. Merry Christmas to you also.
