Born & educated Bklyn & Valley Stream,NY. University degrees from Hofstra (FA),Pratt(MLS)&Adelphi(MS) all Long Island.Professor Library Science Adelphi University. Re-located to Athens,Greece 1970 when met husband & teaching Eng.as 2nd Lang.'70-05 when had 1st stroke. 2nd stroke 8/06 while in US. Back in Greece now & doing therapy. However, I NEED someone to talk to. Also enjoy reading,geneology,photography,computer - talking w/ friends using technology.

glad I was 54...but after 16yrs of paralysis I have been sooo very lucky I have most of my brain..

Close Stroke
My father passed away 7/10/05 in NY while I was visiting from Greece. I ret'd to Greece as if I was living in a dream -doing things I don't recall & teaching students I didn't remember. I suffered my 1st stroke 10/20/05 but not realising it, went home to sleep. Next day I ended up in hospital, in a coma for a week & paralyzed on rt side when I awoke. Did therapy for mo. so I could walk & travel to US. 3 wks later I awoke feeling as if I had suffered 2nd stroke - which I had. After almost 3 mo.in hospital I spent 3 wks in acute therapy & another 3 wks in sub-acute.In Acute rehab I was lucky enuf to have a strok support group where we could discuss our anger at "why me!" In 3/07 I suffered a broken hip & had to learn for 4th time how to walk. I ret'd to Greece in 9/07 after deciding that a yr in a nursing home was enuf.Since then I have an aide 8 hrs a day & therapy 3x a week. However, one does not see people w/ quad canes & aides assisting them walking around the streets of Athens & I cannot get used to being stared at - I went through this when I 1st came here in 1970 & the people were not used to foreigners. I cannot get used to it again as well as dealing w/ suddenly being crippled & need moral support.
