I just started a group called Arthritic musicians or "music". Since I studied to be a concert pianist til I was twenty, I obviously love classical music. At twenty, however, I just couldn't see practicing 8 hours a day anymore. I simply didn't have the passion for it. However, I have since devoted my life to playing classical, pops and jazz (You know one of those "party people" who instead of enjoying themselves at a party, entertain everyone else.) That is...til arthritis took the talent from me. I can no longer open my hand wide enough to span an octave...and MY, OH MY, does it hurt to try. Now, when I hear Chopin and I still have the sheet music for it, I follow the notes along on the paper or if not, and I still remember the keying, I and move my fingers as if I were playing the piece. I miss it so. My 87 year old brother (miles away from me) called me last night to ask if I still played. When I said no, he berated me for being a wuss. And he's right! I'm gonna try to block out the pain. Anyone out there with a similar malady? Join my group and let me know how you're coping without your talent anymore.....or have you somehow overcome it?

I have a piano in our family room and I only bought it for myself as an adult, because when I was young I wanted to take piano lessons and have a piano so bad. We just were too poor for any extravagant extras. So I bought a used piano and I would sit and just "pick" out tunes by ear. Now the grandkids play on it when they come. Bob has wanted to get rid of it but I have always said no. Where do we find your group? What's it's name? Well, we shopped alot today, so I am going to take a nap. Give Miss Maeve a big hug and kiss from me.

Barb, you'll find my group under members' groups and called "arthritic musicians". Keep that piano! Tell your hubby "music is good for the soul". Maybe one of the grandkids will show real talent. Did you find any bargains today? Keep shopping. Maeve sends her love.
