      Hi, Carolyn.

I'm doing quite well, thanks. I had to call the Altoona cancer center twice to have them send more Telfa pads over with the bus driver. I have been cutting one in half and taping it back together to get a patch about 4 by 5. Just the right size for under the breast. Yes, I am using the cream. Wonderful stuff. At first, I used it at every dressing change which was often. Now, I do it 3 times a day as directed by the doctor. I start the day off with the peroxide wash. BUT now instead of cotton balls, I use cotton rounds to do that. The rounds work so much better. That is one thing I would like to pass on to other burn victims.

I no longer need to change clothes throughout the day due to leaks and I've worn the same nightgown for 4 nights in a row, now. So happy about that. I was not thrilled about making the extra laundry while sister had to wash it.

Sister is going to cook a turkey breast for Thanksgiving. No use doing whole bird for 2 of us. I don't like the dark turkey meat anyway. Too many pin bones. She's also doing sweetpotatoes, and good ole green bean casserole. We both like that one.

So, thanks for the good wishes. Have a safe holiday yourself.

      Take care,
      Bertha

      Hi, Carolyn.

Finally done with the radiation. Now how long until the skin heals? The tech called the man doctor in to look at my skin since the woman was not on duty that day. He did prescribe Silver Sulfadiazine Cream for me to use. I think the underarm does look better, but the pads from under the breast are still bloody. I cannot see under there. My big problem is how to keep the pads from leaking onto my clothes. I have to change 3 or 4 times a day, nightgowns 2 or 3 times a night. I am doing laundry every day, now. Right now, I am using puppy pads. I cut them in half and wrap around the breast, then tape into a cup shape to hold the leaks. So far, so good today.

If you had that problem, how did you handle it?

On Friday, I did my first load of laundry since breaking the arm. I can't handle heavy baskets yet, but doing it every day doesn't let the basket get too full, anyway. I hang the stuff on th eporch lines. Scared to venture into the yard. :-)

      Well, that's it for now.
      Bertha
