I WILL BE UPDATING MY PROFILE OVER THE WEEKEND (June 27-28)!! I am a 27 year old chronic pain sufferer of the past 4 years. For the past 12 years, I worked in the restaurant industry, graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 2002, and privately catered for a number of years. As a result of some extreme physical demands on the job in 2004, I developed two severe inguinal hernias (right...then 3 months later, left). They were both repaired, however, I developed inguinal neuropathy (in the groin) subsequently in the three inguinal nerves; ilio-inguinal, ilio-hypogatric, and genitofemoral. In early 2006, I underwent the surgical removal of those nerves called an inguinal neurectomy. That procedure was meant to make my condition improve, however; my condition got worse...A LOT WORSE. Post-traummatic/post-surgical neuropathy is my current diagnosis. The symptoms are pain signals in the groin, a bit of my right lower back just out to the side/hip, front of the hips, front and inner right thigh, inner left thigh, lower abdominals, and genitals...the pain; shooting, stabbing, burning, radiating, tingling, wrenching, pricking, scraping...and so on. Since 2006, I have undergone 5 MORE MAJOR operations in attempts to corect and/or improve the condition. I have underwent bi-lateral ilio-inguinal nerve blocks, taken around 35-40 different meds (out of which, about 4 are useful...Lyrica, Methadone, Wellbutrin, Ritalin...all for PAIN), TENS, phys therapy, bio-feedback, MRI and radio-imaging, and Spinal Cord Stimulation. I had my first stimulator implant performed in 2007...rather than having the leads implanted into the spinal area (epidural space), they were implanted DIRECTLY into my inguinal region...this is called Peripheral Nerve Stimulation or PNS. My first implant had many complications, and subsequently, I developed a staff infection 6 weeks later...the entire unit was removed and I ended up with a 6 inch wide incision with a giant inner pocket...packing it with gauze twice a day for three months until it closed on its own. I was confident in my current pain specialist to perform a second implant. It was successful and has been useful in my pain treatment ever since. My career as a chef has been put on a serious hold as the medical condition has severely disabled me. I do teach cooking classes occasionally as a guest chef at Whole Foods Market in Sacramento...minimally satisfying! My girlfriend Ami, my father, my mother, and my close friends have been there every step of the way. I love them all... Things I can still do: Cooking, DJ'ing (not while standing though), music production, school (yes, I said school is an interest!!), loving my girl, seeing my baby girl Skyler smile, hanging with friends (even though I do not have many anymore...some people just don't want to be your friend when you are in a time of need...and especially when you are a chronic pain sufferer!!)... Things I wish I could still do: Skiing, sailing, hiking, biking, basketball, soccer, football, running, DJ'ing (an entire set while standing...even all night!!), long day at the beach, cooking in a kitchen all day every day, walking for more than 30 minutes, etc...

This was on another group, forwarded from somewhere else. So if it is copywrited, my apologies to that person. Since I can't seem to forward or copy on this site I will attempt to key this for you. People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person. When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionnally or spiritually. They may seem like a God send and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk way. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on. Some people come into your life for a SEASON because your time has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace and make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season. LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind, but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being a part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.
As usual I have responded to a post without reading about the person I am responding to. I hope I wasn't too flip in my post. I am truly sorry for your condition that was caused by our outstanding medical community and for the dashed hopes from the following surgeries. In one of the posts on this site, the person spoke of the hope and then the dashed hope and the devastation to the psyche. I had never taken the tally of the dashed hopes in my own life and what an incredible high wire act we all do every day without any applause or compensation. Again... Patti in R-Kansas
In late 2004, I suffered two consecutive inguinal hernias; right followed by left. Consecutive operations (Jan '05/April '05) left me with a unusually painful recovery with neuralgia. In Feb '06, I had a neurectomy (nerve removal) in my groin...made the pain 10x worse!! Nowadays...after countless treatments, I experience EXTREME pain during intercourse...the type that usually deters me from even desiring being intimate with the person I LOVE. I cannot stand NOT being able to engage in intimacy!
A late 2004 work injury led me resulted in 4 years of horrible surgery after surgery...8 total...post-traummatic/post-surgical chronic inguinal neuropathy

My father suffered a severe dog bite about 2 weeks ago...punctured his right hand. About 4 days later, he started getting minimal itching in the right armpit. About one week later, the itching became severe and spread through the right arm, the right side of the chest, and into the back. Soon after, he noticed small red dots that have now developed into full blown Shingles. He was MISDIAGNOSED a week ago before getting a confirmation 2 days later. HELP US!!!
