I just occured to me that coming to grips with what happened and getting rid of the shame of it is only part of the battle that i(we) face. All of those "bad" copeing mechanisems that i used, i still use, and will continue to use unless i retrain myself. I think i had stopped going to therapy last year simply because the nightmares had stopped. It was an obvious mistake to stop going, and i have since started going back again. I've got to use the therapy on two fronts; one, to loose the shame and come to grips with what happend; and two, to learn how to deal with normal everyday stressors in a healthy way.

"Nature abhors a vacuum" so when you get rid of one behavior or issue, something else will fill up that void. hopefully it will be something positive like you said, "learning to deal with normal everyday stressors in a healthy way."
and if you have this positive thing in your life, there won't be much, IF ANY, room for the negative stuff to creep back in, because another Law of Nature is this: "Two things cannot occupy the same space at the same time."
it is so encouraging to be on this Healing Journey with you, and watch you stretch and grow - thinking, meditating and connecting the dots. i feel good things ahead for you!
