I had a car accident in Maryland 4 years ago and there was a bench warrant out for my arrest because I didn't appear in court (in Maryland - because I lived in South Carolina)for the traffic tickets they gave me for the accident (Not DWI or anything serious. Just illegal lane change and driving without a driver's license.) No one was hurt in the accident.
I was never a resident of Maryland. I was just passing through and when I had the accident. They refused to work with me by mail, even if I was represented by a lawyer. They insisted I drive back to Maryland. I was too poor to go back. So they put out a warrant.
Monday I went back to Maryland to get my case resolved (Took a plane and stayed in a hotel) only to be told my case was dismissed Jan 2009. They never told me.
And I didn't think to call before I went there. LOL
I get my South Carolina driver's license this Friday (if I past both the writen and road test.)
Shouldn't be a problem passing the road test. I have had lots of practice - every day since 1988. I never stopped driving even though my driver's license has been suspended for many years.
This Friday I will be a legal driver for the first time in 5 years.
