Hey! I'm Nikki. I have absolutly no idea why it says im age 39 or something... weird! I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when I was 11 years old. I enjoy singing, playing the piano and guitar, swimming, and playing volleyball. I have a boyfriend who has it a lot worse off than me, he has Cystic Fibrosis. It's made me realize that i could have it SO much worse. I just try to live everyday to the fullest despite my illness, and so I'm here to connect with people who have Crohn's and CF, or know someone with Crohn's or CF. I would love to talk!!

I enjoy things like: singing, playing the piano/guitar, swimming, playing volleyball, reading, taking pictures, hanging out with my friends, guitar hero, Starbright world, writing, science, I LOVE learning about anything medical. I hope to become a physicians assistant in pediatric hematology/oncology!!! =)

I'm glad you've been having more ups with the Crohn's lately, that's really great! I'm sorry about the depression and anxiety though. :( I hope they get better soon! *super big hugs* I've had some really tough times with depression too, so I know how hard it can be. I'm always here if you ever want to talk about anything! Hang in there! I haven't been doing so good lately. My Crohn's is still pretty bad, and the past couple weeks I've also been having a bunch of other weird symptoms that no one can figure out. I spent most of this weekend at the hospital having lots of tests done and stuff, but so far they haven't been able to find out what else is wrong... Anyway, take care! Hope to talk to you soon! Close Crohn's Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
I was dxed with Crohn's when I was 11 yrs old. Ive been in & out of the hospital too many times to count. Ive tried about every medication that I can, and unfortunatly Ive had a bad reaction to all of them. The reaction I had on 6MP was life threatening. Ive never had surgery and hope to keep it that way. Im on a limited diet, and I cant do much physical activity or I get sick..
Treatments
- Asacol Working / Worked
- It worked really well for maintaning my remission Side effects: hair loss I had a very rare reaction to it, It dropped my platletts and so I had to be taken off of it... I just got put back on it again, very nervous >.
- Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
- As long as I stay away from the foods and drinks that bother me, It works better than any medicine I've been on.
- Calcium Working / Worked
- I cannot have dairy so this is a great supplement for me
- Cipro Working / Worked
- This worked for me well to treat an infection I got when I was first diagnosed
- Dietary Modification Working / Worked
- I've had to make a lot of dietary modifications! Annnd it works well.
- Entocort Somewhat Helpful
- I kind of worked for me. Not as well as prednisone. Side effects: Mood swings It only works sometimes depeneding on what part of my crohn's is flareing. I am currently on this med again to help my inflammation in my colon
- Fish Oil Not Working
- It doesn't hellp.
- Flagyl Working / Worked
- It worked to help treat me.
- Prednisone Working / Worked
- Worked the best Side Effects: mood swings, moon face, depression, weight gain, didn't sleep well while on it, water retention, ate ALL the time. I hate it, and I feel the side effects out weigh the benifits.
- Prevacid Working / Worked
- I was on it before and it took care of all acid reflux. Went off of it for 3 years, am currently back on it and its helped a great amount.
- Prilosec Somewhat Helpful
- Wasn't a high enough dose so I had to switch meds.
- Probiotics Considering
- I don't know if this has worked or not. But I have been taking it for a year now.
- Purinethol Working / Worked
- Worked VERY well for 4 years. I had a very bad reaction to it. I went into the ER and found out I had NO immune system and had a severe infection. Put in reverse isolation for a week and then had to be isolated at home for 2 months to replace my immune system. I cannot be on it anymore.
- Remicade Working / Worked
- Kept me in remission for 4 years. I had an allergic reation to it 2 years ago and so I cannot take it anymore. Side effects: joint pain, headaches after infusions for about a week
Close Cystic Fibrosis
I don't personaly have CF, but my boyfriend has it. It's very hard for me to know hes struggling to breathe, or just doesn't have energy to do normal things. I feel so helpless and I hope being a part of this group will help me be there for him and help set my mind at ease!
Open Depression
I was diagnosed with depression a little less than a month ago. Although, I'm sure I've had it on and off for about 3 years due to my Crohn's disease and family issues. I just now got involved with a councler - thats how i discovered I had it.
Treatments
- Psychotherapy Too Soon to Tell
- Just getting one... So I don't know yet...
- Writing Working / Worked
- When the depression isn't too bad at the time, this helps me get my thoughts out and it calms my mind.
- Zoloft Working / Worked
- I just recently had to up my dose becuase the normal didn't seem to help anymore. But I love it and it gave me my life back!!!!
Open Anxiety
I have a very high level of anxiety and I have just started getting anxiety attacks. I need to get this under control before school starts up and I get too stressed out. Xanax seems to be helping with my symptoms when they get severe.
Treatments
- Xanax Working / Worked
- I was very recently prescribed this. I had a very bad day with my anxiety, had 3 anxiety attacks, and was very unstable. After taking this med all symtoms went away and my mood improved a great amount. It works very well for me.
