I AM 43 YEARS OLD AND WORK AS A SOCIAL WORKER. I HAVE 2 DAUGHTERS 13 AND 8. I AM ORIGINALLY FROM PERU BUT HAVE LIVED WITH MY HUSBAND IN ENGLAND FOR 16 YEARS. NEVER PLANNED HAVING ANOTHER CHILD BUT WAS REALLY HAPPY WHEN IT HAPPENED AND I FOUND MYSELF PREGNANT. My last pregnancy was 4 years ago and when i had a scan at week 8 I was shocked when I was told that I was carring an empty sack, the baby was not there. I then had an nduced abortion, it was very hard for me then but not as sad and hard as it is now. I became pregnant again 19 weeks again and I was so happy when i had my first scan and this time the baby was there, I had another scan at week 11 and at 16 weeks. Everything was going well, the baby was growing each timeand with that grew my happiness and I was over the moon. However just last week I started having brown discharge, my midwife was not worried about it as i did not have any other symptoms. However i called my GP, he checked for the heart beat of the baby and could not find it, I was then sent to the hospital to have a proper scan, where they confirmedthat my baby was dead x 2 weeks. I felt that my world collapsed on me. I had to go into hospital to have a mini-labour to deliver my baby, she was a girl and we called her Olivia, my father from my catholic church came to see me at home and at the hospital to bless my baby. My baby was brought to me in a special box i made for her, she was just the zise of my hand, but had averything, and despite my grief and sorrow I enjoyed having her next to me on my bed. It was very hard when I had to come home nd leave her behind. the hospital is arranging the funeral and she will be buried in a special baby cemetary. On my request the hospital did a lot of test on me to find out if I had an infection that may have caused this. As far as I know 80% of miscarriages happens before12 weeks and only 20% after 12 weeks. I do have a lot of support from my husband, my family, friends, collegues, neighbours and from my children but my heart is still broken and I can not stop crying.

IT WAS A VERY DIFFERENT PREGNANCY TO THE FIRST TWO. I HAD STOMACH CRAMPS EARLY ON, FELT REALLY TIRED AND WAS ALSO VERY HUNGRY PARTICULARLY BEFORE BED AND ATE A BOWL OF CEREAL MOST NIGHTS. I WENT TO PERU AND BECAUSE I WAS EXPERIENCING BAD CRAMPS I WENT TO A CLINIC THAT GAVE ME A SCAN, THE BABY WAS FINE SO THEY GAVE ME SOME TABLETS TO STOP THE CRAMPING. ON RETURNING HOME A FEW WEEKS LATER I WENT TO MY DOCTOR AND TO THE CLINIC. EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND I HAD ANOTHER SCAN AND ALL WAS OK. AT THE USUAL 16 WEEK SCAN I WAS FEELING REALLY WELL NOW AND THE EARLY SYMPTOMS HAD DISAPPEARED. THE BABY HAD GROWN WELL AND WAS THE PERFECT SIZE FOR THE WEEKS AND THE HEART WAS BEATING STRONGLY. SOON AFTER THIS I HAD SOME SLIGHT BROWN DISCHARGE ON WIPING AFTER THE TOILET AND WHEN I LOOK BACK MY BREASTS BECAME LESS TENDER. THE DISCHARGE STOPPED THEN RETURNED A WEEK OR SO LATER, I WAS COMFORTED BY THE MIDWIFE WHO SAID NOT TO WORRY AND JUST HAVING MY 16 WEEK 2 WEEKS BEFORE FELT NO REAL WORRIES. HOWEVER JUST A WEEK BEFORE MY 20 WEEK SCAN I WENT TO THE DOCTOR A LITTLE CONCERNED ABOUT THE DISCHARGE, EVEN THOUGH THE MIDWIFE SAID NOT TO WORRY UNLESS THE BLOOD CHANGES TO RED. tHE DOCTOR COULD NOT HEAR THE HEARTBEAT. HE SENT ME TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE THEY HAVE BETTER SCANNING DEVICES. THE LACK OF HEARTBEAT WAS CONFIRMED THAT EVENING AND THE FOLLOWING MORNING. THE SIZE WAS JUDGED TO BE ABOUT 16 WEEKS SO THE BABY MUST HAVE DIED 2-3 WEEKS BEFORE. STRANGELY ENOUGH IN THIS TIME I WAS COMFORTED BY THINKING I COULD FEEL THE BABY MOVE IN MY TUMMY, THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE CASE. I HAD TO GO IN TO THE WARD ON SATURDST AND WAS INDUCED TO PASS THE FOETUS AND PLACENTA. THIS WENT AS EXPECTED AND THE HOSPITAL LET ME SPEND SOME HOURS WITH MY BABY (OLIVIA), WRAPPED IN THE BLANKET I HAD BOUGHT FROM PERU FOR HER BIRTH. NOW I FEEL VERY UPSET AND EMPTY AND KEEP BREAKING IN TO TEARS. I WANT TO KNOW WHY AS I WAS SO FAR GONE AND SUPPOSED TO BE AWAY FROM THE DANGER PERIOD. ALSO 4 YEARS AGO I HAD A BLIGHTED PREGNANCY! IS IT ME? IS IT ONE OF THOSE THINGS AND I HAVE BEEN UNLUCKY?? SHALL I TRY AGAIN? AM I TOO OLD? I NEED HELP AND ANSWERS. VICKY
