    • Close Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I became ill in January of 2000.I was working in retail about 70 hours a week. Total exhaustion and my Sons best friend coming down with Mono. was all it took. Within 3 weeks I was so ill my Doctor wanted to hospitalize me. Of course it took months to get diagnosed and that was only because my Dr. had a new P.A. who needed to log in extra hours.I still have my good months and my bad months and have a lot of problems related to the viruses that triggered my C.F.S. but I'm hangin in there!

    • Close GERD & Heartburn

This problem popped up after taking a dozen or so prescriptions for a couple of years for my Chronic Fatigue.

      Treatments

      Antacids Somewhat Helpful
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Somewhat Helpful
      still working on this!
      Nexium Not Working
made me very ill-the side effects were worse that what it was trying to cure.
      Prevacid Not Working
side effects were bad. Worse that the g.e.r.d.
      Prilosec Working / Worked
works if symptoms not severe. I use this every other day to keep my prescription costs down.
      Protonix Working / Worked
This one works the best for me and gives me the most relief but is expensive. I have a $50.00 copay per prescription.
Raising Bed Position Working / Worked
Helps a lot but not all the time, plus I have to have it raised about 10 inches instead of 5.
      Tagamet Somewhat Helpful
    • Open Migraine Headaches

Started having migraines after having bouts of Epstein Barr virus and Cytomegalo virus leading to Chronic fatigue syndrome. I also have severe photophobia which often triggers them.

      Treatments

      Aspirin Somewhat Helpful
used with tylenol, motrin and caffeine to make my own migraine coctail.
      Imitrex Working / Worked
worked but also caused heart palpitations at times.
      Midrin Working / Worked
Worked but not always strong enough.
      Naproxen Not Working
doesn't work for me if taken alone and can't take anything else for hours.
      Topamax Working / Worked
This is the "Holy Grail"!Take this with any other medication and it gets rid of the migraine every time, and faster than other medication alone. *Only problem is that after about 3 year of use I developed a reaction to it where about half of the time I used it it made my arms and hands go numb and lasted about 12 hours. I still use this if the migraine is too bad, its just a trade off with the numbness.
      Tylenol Somewhat Helpful
used in conjuction with a motrin, an asprin and a caffiene pill.- worked well but upset my stomach.
    • Open Mononucleosis

I became ill in Jan. of 2000.Spent months getting tests and trying different medications. Finally diagnosed with Epstein Barr(mono) and Cytomegalo viruses and then Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The viruses really did a number on me with viral onset arthritis, migraines, photophobia, memory loss, gerd, and within the last 2 years ulcerative colitis.I had great results with the antiviral drug Valtex which is specifically for Herpes Simplex Viruses which fits both the mono. anc C.M.V.

    • Open Asperger Syndrome

Actually it is my 18 year old daughter that has been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. I would like to find out more about it and how other people deal with things that crop up.
