Getting settled in Houston Mood
Thursday, June 12, 2008 | A General Update story

Haden and I are starting to adjust to our move to Houston.  Well, in all honesty, it doesnt feel so much like a MOVE as it does a very strange visit.  (We are staying at my cousin's house, and I am also working out of my cousin's house ~ so in a way we're house guests, but in another way we're not.)  I think things will be better once we separate home from work... but that wont be for a couple months ~ which at this point seems like forever since we havent even been here a week yet.

The companies he owns are small.  And his previous assistants have all been part-time help who worked from cellphones and blackberries ~ basically from wherever they wanted to.  But his businesses are growing and for the last year or so he's been thinking he needed someone full-time.  (Which is where I come in)  But its an adjustment.  I've known people that have worked from home and managed to keep the two fairly separate... but try doing that with a whole other family living their lives around you at the same time.  Its just strange.  But I'll get used to it.  I like the work, and think this will be a great opportunity for me to shine in areas I work best in, while having an unfamiliar benefit of being around my son while I'm working.

Oh.... before I run away, I have to tell you ~ we found a wonderful mall only a couple exits away from where we're staying.  I went online to find a Chick-fil-a since my son had been asking about one since we got here, and I needed a Target ~ luckily for us they were in the same mall.  When we went inside we discovered they had an enormous playhouse for little kids to run thru - with slides to go down and stairs to go up - and bridges to cross on their hands and knees - and a few other features I just cant describe accurately to you.  They also had a huge arcade with little cars for him to ride on.  And the best part (according to Haden) ~ they had a carousel!  He was a little intimidated at first... he knew it looked like fun, but didnt realize the horses were going to be so big, I think.  But he had a great time!  Being the oh-so-prepared Mama that I am, I had my digital camera in my purse and took photos of him at all of these fun places.  (When I get the photos prited I'll get a CD so I can put a couple on here.)

Heather, I have only been to Houston one time, but I did take note the place had the greatest Malls. Sounds as though Hayden is content to be a Houstonite...in fact happy to be. It will take a large investment, of yourself, to get the new job process going, but by Christmas, the routine will be in place and the stress will drop away. Houston is a great place, can't wait to get back there and go to Galveston.

I lived in Houston for 10 years from 1976 to 1987 and loved the town. My oldest son was born there. Then we moved back to Arkansas to be close to my family. Even though it's a big city I met lots of wonderful caring people in Houston.
