About Me
I am married and recovering from cancer and a bone marrow transplant. I love gardening and guitar although they tell me my gardening days are over. They didn't catch the cancer when they should have and I shrunk 4 inches in 6 months through compression fractures. So after 2 years I still can't stand very long at one time and feel more like a patient than a person. It has caused me to gain huge amounts of weight since I am so inactive. Something always keeps popping up physically, the latest TMJ. I have been having headaches and nausea. I feel isolated a lot of the time and thought this might be a nice way to talk to people. Encouraging one another is good medicine.

There is a reason why myeloma is still considered 'terminal' and you have found it, but hopefully if you go to a myeloma specialist you will be given some of the new treatments that will again put your myeloma back into remission. Good Luck, Cath

Stage: III was diagnosed with MM about 3 years ago. After a year of diagnostic nightmares they finally figured it out and I was in stage 2 by then. I had so many compression fractures I lost 4 inches in height and the pain was so bad I couldn't move out of a chair. They put me on Thylidomide and Decadron. It worked quite well and I then had a bone marrow transplant. AFter much prayer and much positive thinking, I am now cancer free two years after the transplant. My back is still a huge problem.
Treatments
- Chemotherapy Working / Worked
- I had a bone marrow transplant and it completely knocked the cancer out. I was very nauseated, more than most. I was glad when it was over. They felt some nerved damage was done to some of my digestive system. I am still struggling with my digestive system and back pain and stamina, but am cancer free.
- Thalidomide Working / Worked
- Worked well. Knocked the cancer in half each month but never got rid of it. There was a question of some nerve damage to internal systems, especially digestive. No one told me it could cause this, so I was not looking for it and stayed on it too long while my back healed some. I wanted my back better before the bone marrow transplant.
- Zometa Working / Worked
- It helped with the many spinal fractures caused by not diagnosing it soon enough. No bad side effects. They took me off after a year because of reports of jaw bone problems.
