    • About Me

I am a college student struggling to return to my vibrant life. I am seeking others who understand what it means to go through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Sometimes I am hopeless and afraid of the future. Sometimes I believe I can do anything.

    • Close Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

I've been showing symptoms of hypothyroidism since about 2005, but my tests are always in the normal range despite sub-normal body temperature. I had mononucleosis in April of 2007. I returned to school in the fall feeling fine, and was met with tonsillitis, a bladder and kidney infection leading to chronic back pain and depression, a cold that never went away, and finally a severe fatigue that kept me in bed. I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in May 2008.

      Treatments

      Acceptance Working / Worked
the best thing I ever did was accepting the limitations of CFS
      Acupuncture Somewhat Helpful
I love it! I don't think it did much to treat CFS, but acupuncture is so relaxing and my acupuncturist/herbalist really seems tuned to my body. I have discontinued due to the money and now living further away.
      Laughter Working / Worked
      Love Working / Worked
      Pets Working / Worked
      Prozac Working / Worked
Prozac keeps my emotions under control and consistent so that I can live my life. I now take 30mg daily. I've never had nasty side effects.
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Hugely important for food allergies, especially since mine cut out a lot of staple foods!
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
I see a counselor weekly. This has been very, very helpful.
      Cortisol Working / Worked
I started on a 5mg dose, and felt a good upswing when I increased (slowly) to 15mg. I also think it may help me fight off colds better. I now take 20 mg daily.
      Provigil Working / Worked
100 mg gave me a great energy boost, but did not help with the mental capacity. I'm trying Dexadrine and seeing if that is better, but Provigil definitely works to some extent!
      Dexedrine Working / Worked
This gives me a nice energy supply and has helped me be able to walk around and have a more active lifestyle. It also is helping with mental capacity. I take 5mg, which is way below the dose for ADHD and has almost no chance of addiction.
      Armour Thyroid Working / Worked
I switched to Armour after insurance issues, and it seems to be working just as well as previous thyroid medications. Thyroid meds are ESSENTIAL to my energy and well-being.
      Art Working / Worked
Express yourself! see my work at http://leah.andrewspittle.net
    • Close Food Allergies
      Type of allergy: Other Foods

Diagnosed with sensitivities to gluten, egg whites and dairy which are contributing and/or causing CFS.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Too Soon to Tell
      Ginger Working / Worked
      Very helpful for nausea!
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
Hugely important for food allergies, especially since mine cut out a lot of staple foods!
