I am struggling with my brother's passing of ALS in June of 2008. My mother died of ALS in 1972. I recently learned that one of my baby sisters has this disease as well. The news from my doctor is that with this genetic form of ALS that I and my other living siblings have a 50/50 chance of contracting this neurological disease...I will not focus on the "getting" part, but intend to focus on the LIVING part.

To cope with my brother's diagnosis and disease process, I worked in a part of our yard that was overgrown and nasty looking. I pulled out one acre of briars and made a colorful, kinectic, bright spot...I called it my Larry Spot. Now, I will work on a new area called my Cathy Corner. I so appreciate the people I have met on DS that I name some special areas of my Spot and Corner in honor of folks from here.

I hope you are having a good summer, we are having a wet cool one here. As far as my health I am moving along slowing with the ALS my speeach is going.
Have a great day one of the 3'Bs
Been thinking about you too and your upcoming visit with your dad. Hope and pray that all goes well for you while visiting. We have our good days and bad ones and some that are inbetween. I keep praying to St. Jude, the patron saint of lost causes, to help the researchers in finding a cure for this demon. It may be too late to help our family members but, if it can spare others from having to watch their loved one go through what ours are going through , it will be worth all the prayers. Drop me a line when you get back.
Love, Brenda
For all you are doing for Cathy and to fight the dragon.
Thanks for the hug and back to you. Yes, we are doing everything Don wants to do while he can. He does get more tired than he ever has before. He has trouble sleeping at night because of leg cramps. He tried the water w/quinine, but he can't stand the taste so I went to "Go Nutrient" and got some pills w/quinine yesterday. Hope it works.
Hope all is going well with you.
God Bless you I am here as well if you need a friend.
Mother died of ALS and now my brother has it. I am from a very large family, 9 kids. I am the oldest daughter...so after my mother died I took care of my siblings. I was one of mom's primary care givers. My brother with ALS lives 10 hours away. It seems that my siblings that didn't give mom day 2 day care are the ones that are with him 24/7. I am the brainstormer or the sender of notes and encouragements.
A Quaker with issues of peace. Not just among nations, but inside each and everyone of us. We must find peace in our lives and in our family, community and a nation. I see too much hate and it will eat us up like a circling group of buzzards
Sometimes I feel as if I am allergic to everything. I absolutely have to stay away from all dairy, wheat and processed food. I can not tolerate fragrances, many chemicals, detergents, cleaners...cigarette smoke makes me get very sick...gas stations a no-no.
