Julianna its tough to start with, but if you research on the net, get information from the doctor and don't forget the nurses! I always got so much advice from the nurses who had heaps of information on prostate cancer. Being on this site is a good step, because you can talk to other men as well. Best of luck and let us know how you go.
My husband had surgery for prostate cancer a year ago. He's been cancer free so far. We were blessed that they caught it early, got it all, it had not spread. You've been given great advice below. If there is only one question to ask your doctor it is to inquire what kind of cancer it is, and how aggressive it is. They will rate this on a scale, and that number will help determine how aggressive your treatment options should be. The more aggressive the cancer, the more aggressive your treatment, the less aggressive, you may be able to be more conservative. Regardless, be informed and be an advocate for your father. Patients are sometimes so shellshocked, they need someone there to help weigh all the information. Lastly, keep a notebook dedicated solely to this issue, right down all your questions, thoughts, concerns, issues. I found it really important to have everything in one place. I will say a prayer for your father and your family.
So glad your son is with you, that should really brighten you up, and keep you busy, you have fun with him!
how are you? sending hugs your way
