Another Day of Prednisone Mood
Wednesday, June 25, 2008

6/24/08

Still coming down on mg's but forgot this one side effect. I feel famished all the time and nothing seems to satisfy me.I've just lost another 20 pounds of my initial 50 lb gain from this drug, and I've already regained a few pounds. But how much of the vegetables will I tolerate when it's carbs and sugar I crave. Being Type II Diabetic doesn't help either. It seems to put me in constant anxiety thinking about food and saying no, no, no, and then I blow it eating too many carbs.Thank God my BS is staying level. I'm not on any meds for it and I want to keep it that way. So there is my ah ha for the day, no sugar, no meds.

I gained weight from Lyrica, but it's the only thing that helps with my fibromyalgia. so right I'm on a diet too. I was on Jenny Craig for 2 weeks, but it was so expensive that I'm not going back. Besides, I'm losing more weight on my own program. If you need any diet pointers, let me know. I don't rely solely on rabbbit food.Wishing you the best!

I really hate prednisone for that reason! BUT- Grats on losing 20 lbs! It took me forever to lose the 30 lbs I gained on steroids back in 03. Now I'm back on steroids but at a much lower dose than a month ago and trying to work off some of this weight. Hang in there, I'm with ya!

I'm in one of those ruts where I tell myself, "I don't like myself this chubbie." Then because I convince myself that I'm fat, no good, my clothes don't fit, etc. I eat even more. It's a vicious cycle. I've been doing really well lately, and I think I've lost some weight, but the battery on my scale went out. When that happens, I'll get on it and it'll say I weigh 15-20 lbs. more than I do. So today I took the battery out, and will wait until I get it fixed. Normally it's very accurate.
You really have a double whammy with the diabetes and cortisone problems thrown in, and I feel for you. I will be praying that we both have success. I don't know about you, but my biggest complaint is how I feel - especially in this heat! Have you tried drinking flavored water? I buy this water called Propel. It's only 25 calories a bottle. You can buy it at Walmart. It helps me a lot, especially since I hate to drink regular water. Oh, and it's not carbonated. I stay away from diet sodas because of all the chemicals and they give me a lot of gas and bloat me up.

Coming Down on Prednisone... Mood
Tuesday, June 24, 2008 | A Frustrating story

I finally decided to write to share . I usually write in my own journal notebook, but this time I realize I need support as I don't have it from the one son that lives near me. I got sick with the flu and bronchitis the first of March. Two weeks later a got a kidney infection  with a temp of 104.6, plus more chest conjestion. I went on a heavy dose of antibiotics and it took over two weeks to clear up. I also started a fibro flare that didn't want to go away. I was on 4 mg of prednisone and increased it back to ten to see if it was also a Lupus flare. (My Rheumy lets me go to 10mg on my own if needed). It was Lupus as I responded within 24 hours. The following week I got an intestional virus and I'm praying all these infections are over.I know this is the result of a suppressed immune system, but I've never had so much at once before. It's been a month now and I started the alternating doses to come back down on the prednisone. I'm only on 9 mg., but I have horrible side effects of fibro like flaring coming down, plus hand tremors, shaking, all night insomnia, weakness, and an emotional roller coaster at the higher dose. I've been through this process many times, even got to 1mg and then flared so bad I had to go back up. I'm also feeling depressed, and couped up indoors as the weather here in LA was averging 111 degrees for a week and I'm very sensitive to the heat. I'm just not used to having all these symptoms at once, and for that I'm blessed. So, it's back to the one day at a time dealing with these challenges.  I must be patient as this too shall pass.                                              6/23/08

You've been having some really bad luck lately. I feel for you. I know what your going through. When I get sick, it's not just one thing, it's many. It whacks a big wullop.
It's unfortunate that you don't have the support of your family. You must feel alone. I'm glad you have patience. And yes it's back to one day at a time.
I find prednisone the hardest drug to get off. I too, have the a ok to play with my prednisine. I do know my body and when I flare I can up it on my own. I was at 45 mg and now I'm at 4mg and can't go any lower or I'll flare.
Thank you for sharing your journal. Sometimes it's better to get feed back and support from your friends. I do hope you feel better soon and all this sickness is left behind. I'm thinking of you. Hugs
    Nancy
