    • About Me

Traumatic brain injury survivor of nearly 24 years; was able to continue working until health declined in 2006. My fingerprint of brain injury is what it is...never a dull moment and I am blessed if I can make through 2-3 consecutive years without a slip and fall resulting in serious enough injury to warrant surgery. I have more medical issues now than I can remember, let alone keep track of. The most recent: total thyroidectomy resulting from Hashimoto's auto-immune thyroiditis. Migraines, ADHD, Barrette's Esophagus, lymphadenopathy, fibromyalgia, osteopenia, arthritis, seizure disorder, chronic pain, allergies off the map, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, and more - just a lovable mess.

    • Close Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury survivor of 23 years. Slid under the radar - no rehab until a year ago.

      Treatments

      Neurontin Not Working
prescribed for off-market prevention of migraines. Developed osteopenia; too many years on it and it is my belief and perception it was detrimental to my employment demise.
      Psychotherapy Working / Worked
      Neuropsychological - working very well.
      Vitamin E Working / Worked
Neuro prescribed 1000 IU for memory. It actually helps as long as I remember to take it.
    • Close Migraine Headaches

Have had migraines since a child, with a respite from car wreck in 1985 until 1995. When they returned, it was with a vengeance - about 18 times a month.

      Treatments

      Fiorinol Somewhat Helpful
Worked sometimes in my 20's. Was never tried when migraines returned
      Imitrex Not Working
only took the edge off the migraine to make me somewhat functional
      Neurontin Working / Worked
Works great as a preventative. I still get break through migraines but they are mild in comparison
    • Open ADHD / ADD

I was diagnosed with adult ADHD in the early 90's, when consulting with neuro on the ramifications of the brain injury I sustained in 1985.

      Treatments

      Adderall Working / Worked
Update - back on Adderral and thus far, no migraines as in the past. Improved ability to filter distractions, expecially visual distractions. Better emotional control.
      Strattera Not Working
I didn't like it. Since sustaining braain injury, I have found that several medications that impact as an anti-depressant actually make me very depressed.
    • Open Arthritis

Multiple injuries from car wreck 1985 - now have advanced arthritis in both knees, lower back, right hip and neck.

      Treatments

      Ibuprofen Working / Worked
Can't take enough to make a difference or it aggravates the condition in my stomach.
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
just started that to strengthen the knees, specifically quads and deal with the fixed muscle spasm in my neck that created the conditions for the arthritis.
    • Open Sleep Apnea

Diagnosed with sleep apnea about 4 years ago, although significant other(s) over the years reported since my car wreck that I stopped breathing several times during the night (22 years post-trauma) Currently on CPAP - sometimes works sometimes doesn't.

      Treatments

      CPAP Somewhat Helpful
CPAP was good in the beginning although status has changed. New sleep study has been scheduled by doctor
    • Open Sexual Abuse

Victim of childhood incest. Recently violated by a womanizer.

      Positive Thinking Working / Worked
It helps most of the time
St. John\'s Wort Working / Worked
      Xanax Working / Worked
wonderful on as need basis but dr will not presrcibe - he prefers antidepressents that make me depressed
      Zoloft Somewhat Helpful
I gained a lot of weight on this
    • Open Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Short story version - survivor of childhood abuse compounded by pervasive pattern of abusive relationships until about 9 years ago. complicated by TBI from 1st ex.

      Treatments

      Thyroidectomy Too Soon to Tell
Still waiting on pathology from total thyroidectomy but thus far, I am feeling pretty good. Ummm...dunno if cancer or not so too soon to tell if thyroidectomy has resolved everything.
