About Me
Non-smoker, no alcohol, slim, live quiet life w/several cats & 1 dog. diagnosed w/ mild sigmoid (Left-sided) colon diverticulosis 3 yrs ago. I have had very mild attacks compared to some here--never fever, and no hospitalization. The interesting thing is the primary care doc i was seeing @ the time kept wanting to throw AB's @ me every time I had a flare up. After my 1st attack I went to a GI doc. He is against giving me AB's w/every flare-up & I have never gotten any worse. The first thing I do when I start to feel a symtpom coming on is to put myself on liquids only & then go to a low-residue diet. Not eating is the hardest thing for me to adapt to.

Hello, no I have not tried a gluten free diet. I guess I should read up on it and possibly try that out. I suppose something will eventually have to work. RIGHT?!

Yes, When in the hospital I had Cipro, Flaygl, and Gentomycym. I have had Cipro / Flaygl all other times. Have you had a diagnosis of Diverticulitis - CT, Ultra sound, or MRI when under attack? You could have anything if not. My last case I did not have a fever or high WBC. You are not in danger of serious complications if you do have DD. Attach clear in 3 - 7 days with antibiotics in my experience. Best Wishes, John
Ray of Sunshine
Hello Lilly, I am in the study still. It is a 2 year study and I have only been in it 3 months. I think they will tell me if I was on placebo at the end, but I and not sure. If I was ever "unblinded" they would kick me out of the study (like if I took a drug test to find out). It is a mystery why and when we get attacked. What makes me different is that I have had 4 attacks and have not had the surgery already. I get my attacks two years apart in winter when I fatten up and slow down. Happy Holidays, John
I’m With You
My first 3 attacks I did get fever. The last one I did not have a fever but got meds that probably stopped it. A liquid diet is a great healer and risk prevent if things are headed badly. You sound like a person that should stay away from the surgery. You may beat this on your own. You are doing the right thing. If you have hot spot pain and a fever, get the meds. A flare is the diverticulous acting up. An attack is bacteria burning a hole in your colon. I have had the mild discomfort of diverticulous and that cannot compare to the burning hot spot of divertculitis. You cannot touch the hot spot when I am under attack or I might bite like a rabid dog. That is the difference. Hot spot pain vs. general feeling of discomfort over a broad range in the left side. Everyone is different, but that is my story. Best Wishes and thanks for the hug, John
