So many terrible things happening. I Do Not Live in these areas, I do live down stream and out of reach of the Iowa River. My flooding problem is the saturated ground and streams over flow. We are in lower land out here on the waters way out of our area. By this week-end we might have major problems depending on how much more rain comes down. But this is close enough, our hearts just break for what the people in All the flooding states are going through. The Train bridge in Ceder Rapids just collapsed. It was situated between 8th ave. and 12th ave. Bridges. They people in charge had filled rail cars with rocks and sand .....then placed the cars on the bridge yesterday to help hold the train bridge in place by the weight...... and the big mass was supposed to slow the water down, kinda like metal sandbags ? They (the news people) just gave that as the official statement. It started to sag and then went down in two mins. because of the depth and speed of the water. So now these cars are headed down stream into the 12th ave. bridge which sits up a little higher than the others but the 16 ave bridge is now being swamped. This should be on the national news this evening and they(news people)are scrambling to get the film crews out there. As of 8am 24.5 feet of water in downtown CR now and they believe it will go higher before the day is done. Wow, it has been said that tomorrow the officals are closeing I 80 across the state in large chunks? that wasn't done in the 93 floods. But...this is bigger. So much for now.
