On Guard Mood
Wednesday, October 21, 2009 | A Rambling story

I know that's a fencing term used to start the match but it holds true in many other fashions. I arrived home this morning from work and noticed a van in the driveway and thought great the landscaper is here but upon closer inspection I noticed out of state plates and I just sank. The relatives had arrived without so much as an e-mail to inform me of their arrival. Came into the house and they were there at the front door talking with the carpenter so I waved hello and went on my way. As time passed she came up and started to talk to me and was pleasant and concerned about my health, they know nothing of the blood clot and never will. At the end of a ten minute conversation she said..."IT's been nice talking with you" What the? Who the hell are you and what have you done with the bitch from hell? Then my cousin got off the cell phone and wanted to talk and was concerned about my health. Okay, what the hell is going on here? You're both acting too damn nice. See Jon, that's how they lure you in, nice and sweet and pleasant and when you're not expecting it bam, out of the blue the back-handed compliments start and then it's warfare as usual. But this time, I'm not falling for it. I will remain on guard for the first thrust of the sword and when needed stab them right back.

They both aplogized to me and were outraged that I have been living without a kitchen sink or water for the kitchen for a week and promised that the plumbers would be here today to install the hardware and get things going again. Unlike them...I accpeted their apologies with grace and said no big deal. There are way to work around things...good thing I have enough glasses and china and tableware to make it eight days. I guess they missed the point where I accepted their apologies as one should, whereas they didn't accept mine over a month ago. Oh well, arrogance begets arrogance.
