I had to take Zeus to the vets yesterday...just as I thought we were finally over this skin irration problem and he had a medical bath the day before and looked great, but he was out running around and came up on the terrace and stood at the door to go in...his way of saying put the sewing down dad and get off your fat ass and let me...but I digress, I noticed a pink spot. He immediately sat down and then I get up and let him in and act like there was nothing wrong so he wouldn't run and was able to check his right rear leg and he had a six-inch pink spot that wasn't there the day before, grapped the phone, called the vet and got there asap.
We had to wait quite a while because another dog had gotten biten by a snake at the same time and was being taken care. We are sitting there very calmly and being as patient as possible and this man with this dog a lot like Zeus comes in and the dog has a clear "lamp shade" on and the dog is just totally out of control, to a degree I don't blame him I mean having a lamp shade on is only reserved for drunks. But this dog was so out of control; and straining at the lease to get at Zeus and Zeus just sat there and looked at this other dog like what the hell is your problem? Zeus was wonderful, never moved, barked, howled nothing! I sat there proud as a peacock for having such a good buddy and I learned a great deal from his response. He is always calm under pressure, other dogs are going off and he is always just calm and like...whatever, get over it!
They finally put the dog in a room who then tore through the vets office while the vet was trying to take care of the snaked biten dog and the owner was absolutely useless, the guy was bigger than me and he didn't have a clue as to how to control or over power his dog. I said you need to learn to control your dog to some staff members and they agreed.
The owner came out, sat down beside me and asked me how I got my dog to behave that way. I told him he was born that way. The guy just looked at me and shook his head.
But what I learned from my best buddy is to just let the bullshit and excitment of others roll off your back as best as you can. Thank you Zeus. You taught your dad a very valuable lesson. I've seen you react this way before but it never sunk in until now! Better late than never. Good boy Zeus, now dad, just try and follow his example and just let it all go.

Wow, John, do you think that these traits are because of the wolfy section? My Blue boy is not one to EVER bark unless there is something definitely going on. His girlfriend (a dumb old golden retriever) on the other side of the fence barks at everything. They run up and down the fence line and the she barks somemore and he just trots off as if to say, 'I'm not buying in to this crap!" When we first got Blue, he didn't actually bark for over six months! I'm liking this wonderful trait!! What is the cause of the skin issue? Blue sucks his back leg at the point where it meets his leg. Kind of like nursing. His hair is black and so thick that I can never tell if there is an irritation or just a coping mechanism from being abused in his old life.
Thinking of you both today,
Love,
Jan
