    • About Me

I am a mother of four, grandmother of 3 and I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia several years ago, however--I was recently diagnosed with Polymyositis--and think it may have been this that has plagued me all along. As you can see if you look at my groups, I have a few other--perhaps more minor(depending on the day)--issues as well. One possibly interesting thing about me is that I feel that help for Co-dependency was a huge factor in my having the strength to end my second marriage in 2000 and helped in the ability to have what is currently a successful remarriage the same man again 5 years later.

    • Close Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in the late 1990's. Before that, I was told that everything was in my head. I had my first sleep study about 1993 & told the doc about my over-whelming fatigue & spells with slurred speech, etc. The sleep doc chalked it up to depression & said I needed to get a job. ODD...I was working part-time and attending college at the time. Was too shocked & pissed to say much. I think I may have been misdiagnosed with the Fibro now. I guess we will see.

      Treatments

      Prednisone Working / Worked
I had to insist on going to a neurologist when I began having very noticeable muscle weakness. After many tests...and then finally an EMG muscle biopsy I was diagnosed with myositis in early Oct. 2008. I was leery of taking steriods due to the sideeffects but I am feeling like a new person since starting on the prednisone.

    • Open Back Pain

Have had back pain for many years. Had very successful surgery for herniated disc in 1996. Now have some herniation in thoracic region due to scoliosis and osteo-arthritis in lumbar.

      Treatments

      Bedrest Somewhat Helpful
This combined with an ice-pack on the swollen part of my lumbar spine is somewhat helpful.
      Chiropractic Adjustment Not Working
Made me worse in my lumbar spine. Haven't had adjustment since surgery. Helped my neck & headaches somewhat though.
      Flexeril Not Working
Did not ever help my back at all.

Often made my back pain much worse.

I have been a co-dependent my entire life, but I believe I am close to full recovery, but my children are the biggest challenge for me.

This helped me not feel alone and I got a lot of insightful information.
      Music Working / Worked
      Reading Working / Worked
Melodie Beattie was most influential in helping me see my co-dependency and how to deal with it. I have also read materials from 12 Step programs and others.

      Always helps.
      \"Codependent No More\" Working / Worked

    • Open Fibromyalgia

I was diagnosed with FMS back in the late 1990s, but now that I have been diagnosed with Myositis and meds are helping me feel so much better--I am doubtful of the FMS diagnosis.

      Treatments

      Aqua Therapy Working / Worked
      Helped at times.
      Cyclobenzaprine Somewhat Helpful
Helped me sleep mainly, but also lingered terribly next day, so I really don't take it unless I am in awful shape.
      Guaifenesin Somewhat Helpful
Made symptoms worse, so it was likely working, but I couldn't deal the restrictions on the use of so many products that might interfere with successful treatment.

      Definitely helps with pain.
      Vitamin B12 Somewhat Helpful
      Helps my energy.
