History is essential to our understanding of the present. Unless we are conscious of the way in which we came to this point in time as a people' then we shall never fully be able to plan the present and the future. We need to know what roots are still alive. We need to know how things came to be so that we can project from here. We also need to know the failures of the past so that we can avoid repeating them.
History is not always glorious. Sometimes our history is melancholy. we must accept that. This life is terrible and people do terrible things to each other sometimes. If we are to live for the sake of the good and strong then we should have as much of a background as possible.

I agree and I don't agree. LOL When I was taking psychology courses in college, one thing REALLY stuck out in mind that I learned. It was that we tend to only treat the symptoms of our problems instead of the problem itself. This is only a temporary fix because until you solve the actual problem, the affects will still keep coming. So, as you say here, at times we DO have to go back and analyze our past in order to determine what the underlying problem is that is creating more. However, in many cases, going back and trying to figure it all out will only drive us more nuts! Sometimes, it really is better to let the past go, and just make the changes that we see need to be made. I don't think we necessarily always have to keep going back to the past to do this. How we came to be who we are is a combination of so many things that it would take forever to analyze it and figure it all out. We already KNOW that it's our upbringing and our past experiences that have shaped us into who we are now. That's really all we need to know in most cases. In my opinion, instead of looking at the past, I think looking at who we want to be and how we can get there is what will help us the most. The only time I can see going back to the past is if there is something there that we have not dealt with.

Oh how delightful, it seems as though I write these things in my journal just to see what you have to say on the subject. I just love how you are thinking sometimes, how you bring out all the aspects of a particular point and how much you really think about things.

Kim, I enjoy your journals because they DO give me interesting topics to think about. :) As you know, thinking can be hard for us, but I still like to try. LOL You write about such a variety of thought provoking subjects that I can't help but ponder them, and in doing so, I come up with insights of my own. And, that is very helpful to me! So, thank YOU for your journals! Hugs to you!
