Journal Entry for September 14, 2008 Mood
Sunday, September 14, 2008 | An Anxious story

My oldest is sick again and i took her to the hospital where she was given a prescription for zantac for the pain in her belly but she does not want to take them because she does not want to become addicted even though i take the same thing and only when i need them can't tell her anything at al she knows everything is her idea and so she will suffer or take tylenol which is worse than any thing else i think.

It frustrates me to the point i just don't know what to do with her or for her, if she would at least try the pills and then if they don't work then i would of course have to take her back to the ER but the Dr told her she needs these pills before they do anything else. they took a urine sample and did a blood sugar check, both were normal so now what i wonder?

she says her back is sore her belly is sore but won't take the darn pills that could very well help her so i guess i have to just let her be until she will take something other than tylenol but in the mean time she makes every one else miserable and my mother gets on my case this kid is sick she needs to go to hospital but she just went last night around 7 and she was given stuff to take but refuses, so what is the use she won't do what they want her to oh and besides i think her monthly visitor should be with in the next 2 days or so.

she says no mom it is never like this, and when i try to tell her i was like this too she denies it could be this happening oh well what am i supposed to do i am all but going crazy here.

oh and she is almost 17

 I AM SO FRUSTRATED

as far as i know zantac is a pill for stomach acid and i'm almost certain its not addicting . i take a similar pill for stomach acid and have taken it for a long time but i have also stopped taking it before with no problems . the doctor may think she has an uncer and wants her to take this to heal it . why don't you look the pill up on the internet and she can read all about it . thats what i do before i swallow any kind of pill . i want to know what i'm putting in my body and the side effects of it . good luck . xoxoxoxxoxo love you lizzy

Hi there, please tell her that Zantac is not addictive. All zantac does in bind to receptors in the stomach lining to stop histamine binding to them. When histamine binds to them, stomach acid is produced. It sounds like your daughter is producing too much stomach acid. All this medication does is reduces the amount made in the stomach. There's also omeprazole which blocks stomach acid production in a different way but both drugs are not addictive so she'll be fine. Bless... Sending you lots of hugs as it's difficult when our children are ill no matter how old they are. xx Kathy x

i have told her about what the drug does because i take it myself for the same thing. but she still is scared so i will let her come to terms with it herself. then she will see what i mean by no pain in about 1 hour and i can eat anything

Sounds frustrating! Girls (ithink) can be harder than boys, I have 2 boys & a 13yr old girl who fights me tooth & nail, cuz she know everything. Have you or your daughter ever been tested for H-Pilori(I think thats how u spell it)? I used to have alot of stomach pains and found out that I have this blood disorder. I have to take the same pills myself, cuz if I dont my stomach starts hurting & I cant eat or drink anything cold. It basically makes me so miserable that I cant get out of bed. You can have the Dr. test your blood to check for it. I'm so sorry for you & your daughter, but things will get better. Both of you keep your heads up. Sending lots of prayers for both of you.
