    • About Me

there's a lot to say "about me" and yet most people wouldn't find it all that interesting. I'm a bit quirky, a 27 year old secretary with a nurse and a writer vying for time in my heart. My journey with Fibromyalgia has been a bittersweet sort of path that has taken me many places, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. I've had fibro since I was ten years old, first manifesting with severe pain in my legs and weakness to the point that I couldn't hold a pencil any longer. Since then I've barely made it through High School and later dropped out of college and quit my very intensive nursing assistant job because of my FMS and CFS. I've been divoriced once, for personal reasons. Now I have a wonderful boyfriend who is loving, passionate, and all around amazing. In a lot of ways, he is the old cliche "he completes me." Because of our age difference (almost 11 years) a lot of people don't really understand, but he is what keeps me going everyday, and keeps me searching for a cure or a treatment that works. If there is anything else you'd like to know, feel free to ask me! I love making new friends.

I love to write, when I have the energy for it. Also, I love to read, play role playing games, and sit around chatting with my good friends here on DS. My boyfriend and I do a lot of miscellaneous stuff together, like trying to enjoy the luke warm michigan summer as best we can (LOL) I am trying very hard to learn everything I can about my disease, and possible ways to make the quality of my life better.

    • Close Fibromyalgia

I've been suffering from Fibromyalgia since I was 10 years old. Currently, I have finally found a physician (after 17 years of skepticism and disbelief) that takes me seriously.

      Treatments

      Acupressure Working / Worked
accupressure, and soft massage, are both VERY helpful in moving muscles around and reasserting muscle memory for people (like me) who have been tense and pulled out of whack for numerous years. continual therapy with this (could I afford it) would be most helpful.
      Aqua Therapy Somewhat Helpful
My exhusband and I owned a hot tub, I found that it relaxed me for a very short period of time, but afterwards I would be shaky and weak for hours.
      Cymbalta Too Soon to Tell
I'm currently on Cymbalta, and my doctor says that I seem "more animated", but I am unsure if that is because I am shy and that's the first time I started feeling truly comfortable with him, or because the drugs worked? :) I do know, though, that it hasn't helped the physical pain one lick, and the side effects at the beginning were quite disturbing (I hate not being able to eat due to nausea and dizziness... very disconcerting). It's too soon to tell if this will really work.
      Duragesic Patch Not Working
I say this does not work not because I was not relieved from the pain, but because the side effects were so disabling that I could not handle the treatment. Within a month I was mildly dependendent, and felt the need to ween myself off before it got any worse.
      Heat Somewhat Helpful
I find that sitting on a heating pad, or using my heating chair cushion (on my computer chair at home) feels very good on aching muscles. Unfortunately, this is only temporary for me, and as soon as I stand back up and cool down again my body will retense back into the painful positions I've been in for years.
      Lyrica Not Working
I tried Lyrica for 7 weeks. After two, I had had enough, and called the doctor. I told him I couldn't survive living like a zombie, and that I was within inches of losing my job. He had the nurse tell me that to bump down my dose, and I did... and still couldn't live past the side effects. I would fall asleep at my desk, I couldn't think, I couldn't react... I came home in complete and utter defeat every night. I will never take this med again.
    • Close Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy

About 5 years ago, I slipped on the ice here in Michigan shortly after Christmas, and fell. Shortly afterwards, I developed RSD in my left foot.

      Treatments

      Neurontin Working / Worked
I took Neurontin for years for my RSD. It seemed to help a little.
    • Open Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Recently diagnosed with both fibromyalgia, and CFS.

      Treatments

      Cymbalta Working / Worked
      It helps with the fogginess.
