      From hmyers512 December 31, 2007

Nora, there are two close here, one, Dr. Steffey is kindof a travelling NCR doc. There is also a doc in Sarasota. The doc I saw first is in Miami. Let me know when you get back, i'm trying to put together a few people to see Dr. Steffey who will come to us. I think I could use 2 or 3 more ncr series myself, and I know a few others around here who are interested. Peace, Harvey

Thank you for the posture advice!! It's just that a pool is not an option for me right now, and I have no idea in this life what an inversion table is! Does it put you upside down??Again, thank you!!!

    • Close Chronic Pain

Failed back surgery, laser, in December, 2006 left me worse off than before. Recent MRI shows possible burst cyst, neural or muscular lesion in area where nerves branch out to hip and leg, so cannot straighten up. Strong and healthy constitution and prefer alternative medicine so feell this horrible pain is invasive and unrelenting, neurologist takes a wait-and-see attitude and wants me to go to a "proper orthopedic surgeon."

      Treatments

      Chiropractic Adjustment Somewhat Helpful
      Cymbalta Not Working
      Hydrocodone Not Working
      Oxycodone Not Working
      Swimming Working / Worked
Though at first I could hardly get in the pool, got relief within a couple of days. Could not swim at first but using a Noodle, rode bicycle in water and just kept moving, treading water. Now can swim.
      Massage Working / Worked
Started massage six weeks after surgery when I couldn't even lie face down on the table, had to drape myself over it. Progressed to deep tissue and then miofascial release. Has been most helpful.
    • Close Back Pain

Had laser surgery at l-4,5, S1 in December because of chronic back pain and a recent sprain that left me unable to straighten up fully. The back pain is gone but the hip pain is now excrutiating. I still can't stand up and now i also have burning, fiery pain that makes me just shriek. MRI shows could be nerve or muscle damage or possibly burst cyst. Painkillers don't help much, so bed rest is only relief. Epidural brought short term relief. Pain getting worse.

      Treatments

      Acupuncture Not Working
      Chiropractic Adjustment Somewhat Helpful
      Epidural Injection Somewhat Helpful
      Hydrocodone Not Working
      Ibuprofen Somewhat Helpful
      Physical Therapy Not Working
      Massage Somewhat Helpful
I can't lie straight so massage is difficult, but it does relax me, which helps.
      Traction Somewhat Helpful
Therapist put me in traction and the fgirst time, it was a miracle. I could stand straight and walk for short time.. Later attempts were successively less ghelpful.
    • Open Hearing Loss & Deafness

Have had hearing problems for about 10 years, partly from sitting next to a high-decibel copy machine for several years. Have had hearing aids (strated w/one, now 2) and have trouble in crowds.

    • Open Obesity

I started to gain weight after a car accident that left me with a bad back. Not that I was ever a big execiser, but I kept finding reasons why I had to sit down or lie down. Result was lax muscles, poor posture, eating to console myself and going from a size 12 to an 18. Have tried many routines, from Weight Watchers to predigested coollagen (!) to injections made from a subsrance in the urine of pregnant cows. Nothing workd for long. Now at 5 '7" and 220 pounds, I HAVE to lose weight.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
For three months, I went off dairy, wheat and most white foods. Worked but was restrictive.
      Weight Watchers Not Working
I didn't care for the rah rah attitude, weighing in weekly (the embarassment of not making my weight!) and the dumb hints (i.e. just divide a chocolate bar into seven pieces and have one every day. As if.)
      Atkins Diet Not Working
Lost 30 pounds, had a great time on this diet but would up with kidney stone and had to have stone first blasted, then recaptured. Doctor in the E.R, told me the stone was from all the protein. Horrible pain and I have since given upmeat and chicken so that's out.
      Hypnotherapy Working / Worked
Went to a workshop where we were hypnotized into rejecting ONE food. I chose pasta and that was five yearrs ago and I stilll don't care for pasta.
      Acupressure Working / Worked
Had a temporary loss. Chiropracter taped little silver balls to my ear lobes and when I was hungry, I would roll them around. Lost a few pounds for a few weeks.
    • Open Vegetarians & Vegans
      Type: Other

My daughter is vegan and while visiting her, that's what I eat. about 10 years ago, i gave up meat and chicken, partly for humanitarian reasons. I still eat fish, which iIread makes me a pescatarian. Efect was I lost 10 pounds, got a lot more energy and became more interested in alternative medicine. Which led me to colon therapy, mercury detox, cutting out dairy, or at least trying to and eating much more healthfully. improved my mental outlook and made me feel I am making a small contribution.

    • Open Arthritis

I have arthritis in my spine that comes and goes, sometimes affects my legs, feet and toes. it seems to be directly affected by what i eat. I gave up meat and chicken and started eating a lot more fruits and veggies, went through mercury removal from teeth and chelation. I went to an integrative doctor who took me off allergens such as dairy, white flour and sugar for three months. Now it only bothers me from time to time. But when it does, I have to go to bed and rest.

      Treatments

      Anti-Inflammatory Diet Working / Worked
Amazing. For me this is the key.
      Bextra Working / Worked
I took this when i was in acute stage and it toned symptoms way down.
      Glucosamine/Chondroitin Working / Worked
It tok a few weeks but it definitely helped with pain and flexibility.
      Ibuprofen Working / Worked
I take it when I have a flare-up and it works. i take three and try not to take more than a few days. if i take it early enough, i can ward off an attack.
      Swimming Working / Worked
The stretching seems to lubricate joints. The warm water helps.
