Close Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Type: Relapsing-remitting MSMy husband was diagnosed with MS in 1996. He has been fortunate enough to have extended symptom-free periods. However, he recently has been experiencing severe muscle spasms, numbness in his right leg, slurred speech, and fatigue. I want to learn all I can about this illness so I can help him.
Treatments
- Avonex Not Working
- My husband developed a rash after taking this drug.
- Copaxone Too Soon to Tell
- His neurologist just prescribed this drug, and he will start his injections within the next ten days.
- Solumedrol Somewhat Helpful
- After three days of IV treatment, his symptoms have diminished, but they haven't gone away. : (
- Tysabri Considering
- His neurologist mentioned this might be a possibility since he is allergic to Beta Interferons. It seems like it might work, but the potential side effects scare me!
Close Bipolar Disorder
I was diagnosed with bipolar illness in December 2008 after an antidepressant triggered rapid cycling. While I have been through some rough times, I am determined to live a happy and productive life in spite of this illness! : )
Treatments
- Ativan Not Working
- After taking this for three days, I felt unexplainable rage. Definitely not helpful!
- BuSpar Working / Worked
- Works well in combination with Lamictal to reduce both anxiety and hypomania. However, I can only take 7.5 mg per day. Any more than this causes severe cognitive difficulties, including the inability to find words, spell, and retain information, as well as severe memory loss.
- Lamictal Working / Worked
- This drug has been my miracle! It has helped to stabilize my moods and allowed me to enjoy life again. However, the side effects have been difficult to tolerate, including severe muscle weakness and cramping, sun sensitivity, and significant cognitive impairment and short-term memory loss. However, the burden of the side effects is minimal compared to the benefit of taking the drug. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to help!
- Seroquel Not Working
- One 50 mg tablet caused severe spasms in my feet and legs, as well as tingling in my toes and fingers. I was unable to focus my eyes or to speak. Not the drug for me!
- Xanax Somewhat Helpful
- My pdoc prescribed this to help with anxiety and agitation. It calmed me down and helped me to sleep but I had a severe headache and increased anxiety the next day. Definitely not something I would want to take regularly!
Open Family & Friends of Bipolar
Several members of my family have bipolar illness. My recent diagnosis further supports the theory that bipolar tends to run in families.
Open Abstinence & Celibacy
I am a strong advocate for waiting until marriage. I remained a virgin until I got married. It was worth the wait! : )
