I am so sorry to hear about your loss & your husband's illness. You have been & are going thru a lot right now. I too am mourning the loss of my Mother, Father & brother who have all died within the last 2 yrs. It feels like the pain of losing them is even stronger now than it was when it actually happened. I live in crowded New York City & yet I still feel so all alone.

I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. I can truly relate to what you must be going through. I haven't availed myself of the local hospice grief meetings. I was thinking that if I did need it, down the road, I would go to one. Now, I learn that you cannot sign up if it's after 90 days following a loved one's death. For me, that means I have only a few more weeks to attend a meeting. That's why I'm grateful to have this great network which is always available and puts no restrictions or time lines on one's grief. Here, you can share what it is you're going through and interact with others who are dealing with similar issues. I don't know how long it will take to get over the grief or even if we ever really do, but we are all here for one another at a time like this. Take care of yourself and know that the process of grief has to run it's natural course.

Some days are harder than others, hang in there you will know what to do. Living in a rural area would be much harder. I feel for you and it is understandable to want to be in an assitied living. Hope

    • Close Caregivers

I feel trapped. Economic circumatances have pinned me to a place I hate. We need to be in a warm place in winter as my husband has post-polio syndrome and a bad shoulder. We used to winter in FL or TX & travel the rest of the year in an RV; mostly just to MI where friends & family live. Now, we can't afford to leave FL. We live in a rural area where there is nothing to do. I would love to volunteer, but nothing here. Too far to go shopping or for recreation.

    • Close Environmental Allergies
Type of allergy: Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Hi, I'm having a real problem with hands; dermatologist says is psoriosis which I also have had on scalp for years. Hands crack & look red & I have to fight infection from the cracking. She recommended patch test on back to determine chemical sensitivities, but I have to go 3 times in one week & its 90 miles each trip. Worth it? Anyone had this done? Did it help you determine what to use & not use? Also have a lot of food allergies & am signing up for a support group for that as well.

      Treatments

      Clarinex Working / Worked
      Nasonex Working / Worked
    • Open Diets & Weight Maintenance

I start a diet & experience success & then sabotage it when eating out or going to a function where food is served. I have never tried a support group so this is it! Glad I found this site. Considered weight watchers, but have to pay each week & I need the money for food, not support. I was using a carb-cycling plan; didn't get the results they claimed, but was losing steadily. Starting back on it today. What works for you?

      Treatments

      Atkins Diet Working / Worked
Works when I'm on, but gain back what I lost as I don't stick with it long enough to make a difference. Far less hungry & don't get sugar "crashes" on it.
      Dancing Working / Worked
Don't seem to lose weight, but figure its healthy, so I try to do it regularly.
    • Open Food Allergies
      Type of allergy: Other Foods

I'm in 60's;took allergy shots for over 30 years; stopped two years ago & take Loratadine; seemed to work, but since I had a flu, it isn't working well. Am going back for more testing & possibly back to shots. Food allergies are many.

      Treatments

      Allergy Shots Considering
Shots were not for food allergies; do they give them for that now?
    • Open Chronic Pain

I was in several car accidents (not the driver!) and have been in pain for 30 years. Getting worse & hate to consider more surgery. Would like to hear from those who have had back and/or neck spinal sugery to see how they've done.

      Treatments

      Acupressure Somewhat Helpful
Very painful treatments; helped somewhat, but not enough to continue when insurance won't pay for them.
Chiropractic Adjustment Too Soon to Tell
I am a bit leary; some of them just keep you coming back whether you think you need to or not; am hoping to avoid surgery & the one I'm going to now is very honest about it; he said we'll try the chiropractic adjustment for a few weeks; if it doesn't work, you'll need an MRI & I can refer you to someone else. So I'll give him a try.
      Physical Therapy Somewhat Helpful
I spent a month in a rehab hospital pain clinic; I still do the excercises they taught me; wish I could afford the physiotherpay treatments on a regular basis.
      TENS Working / Worked
It did help a lot; I used it many years ago; can't even remember when or why I stopped; don't have one anymore; may ask doctor about trying one again.
    • Open Bereavement

I lost my Mom on Sept. 7. Never knew it would hurt so bad. You're now the anchor whether you want to be or not. Doesn't matter how old you are. Need friends who have gone through this to tell me how they cope.

      Treatments

      Crying Working / Worked
Helps emotionally, but is havoc on me physically as allergies already have me stuffed up. Everytime I see or hear something that reminds me of her, I cry.
