    • About Me

I am a homemaker, married 22 years in July and have one son age 9. Before leaving my job to go on Disability, I worked at Canada Safeway for 23 years. I had knee replacement surgery in November 2001 and shortly after developed Chronic Pain. It is an ongoing struggle trying to find the right fit of medications to treat my pain. When my health allows, I enjoy crafts, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

I hope you are feeling better, not been on the board for a while, my uncle died suddendly and we had alot of arrangements to make. Bless him he was a hoarder (as am I) and its taking weeks to sort out things. The charity shop is doing very well out of it all. Pain worsened, but I am trying to cut the meds down. Leaving the pain med alone for a while going to try to decrease the sleeping tablets.

Still hoping to come to Canada, in a couple of years, my daughter is in the final two years of UK education so waiting until she has completed that (She is not happy she will have to return to schooling in Canada). We hope to go to Ontario to open a bed and breakfast (with me doing the paperwork generally), have veggie patch and some animals and live the rest of our life in the beauty of the country. Not that the UK is not beautiful, but we cannot afford to do this in the UK and fell in love with the Canadian way of life and its people.

Hope you have good news on your knee

      Take care friend

Thought I would say hello as we are both Canadians. Hope you are enjoying the long weekend.

Thank you for your kind comments and taking my opinions and the way I express them in the way they were intended. Some people don't "get" me. I am too "in their face" and too open, and I hate passive aggresion or beating around the bush. I, like you, just SAY what I mean.

      Hugs to a kindered spirit!

    • Close Chronic Pain

I am a 43 years old, I have been married for almost 22 years and we have a 9 year old son. In July 1983, my husband (my then fiancee') were hit 'head on' by an impaired driver. I sustained numerous injuries the major one being a broken knee. At the time of the accident it was pinned, then rebroken 6 months later to be plated and pinned and I have had several surgeries with my knee being replaced in Nov. 2001. I developed Chronic Pain shortly after, and that is now my life!

      Treatments

      Heat Working / Worked
Just recently my loving husband bought me a full body heating/massage pad which I use every night to sleep on. While it helps me sleep, something I find very difficult due to my pain, the one drawback with this model is it shuts itself off after 20 minutes. I keep the remote within reach so I can turn it back on and hubby will also turn it on for me throughout the night.
      Methadone Too Soon to Tell
After I developed my tolerance for MS Contin, I was switched to Methadone in July 2007. We are currently adjusting dosages and just recently my doctor added MS Contin back into the mix. Some days are good with Methadone, others I am tired and cannot get enough rest. My pain is still moderate on Methadone but my doctor is hoping that the Methadone will close the MMBA Inhibitors and the MS Contin will stop the pain.
      Morphine Somewhat Helpful
I started taking Ms Contin 7 months before my TKR and it worked quite well for the pain. I stopped taking it 2 months after surgery without any problems but 2 months after that was my first experience with Chronic Pain and was put back on it. It worked for 5 years until I developed a tolerance for it and had to try other medications.
      Nerve Blocks Not Working
A block was tried in April 2003 but as soon as the freezing came out, it was obvious the procedure had not worked.
      Neurontin Not Working
The doctors have tried me on Neurontin two different times but each time I take it, no matter how low the dose, I get very dopey from it and cannot function. It worked for the pain only because I was so doped out I could not feel anything! Will not be taking this medication again!
