    • Hug

      From Maryinillinois March 25, 2008

Greetings, I got your message just today. I haven't been on here since I joined I suppose. I am looking for answers to fibromyalgia. I also had amnesia and had ot relearn a few things, but that was many years ago. nearly 20 to be exact. Since then I have completed my Associates degree and a Bachelor's degree. At first just to see what the brain had to offer. I now have a brain tumor I have to deal with and the fibro. It is slow going, but going.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am on several dating sites, and yes, I am finding out it is not me but the men. There are all kinds of people in the world I guess! The right one will come along when he is supposed to, I think! Carol

  • Support Groups

    • Close Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
      Type: Primary Progressive MS

I was dx w/RRMS in 1993 after surviving a head-on train collision in NC! It had a Snow-Ball effect, escallating from there. I am now in late stages of MS, complicated by multiple medical disorders as a direct result! i.e. H/O Anaphylactic Shock combined with a fatal allergy to Epinephrine, LHERMITTES Syndrome, and Trigeminal Neuralgia! PTL! for DailyStrength and HIS strength! I don't have a support system yet, so I look forward to building 1 and making some new friends through DailyStrength!:)

      Treatments

      Avonex Not Working
Besides the extreme Flu-like symptoms causing hospitalization, for some unknown medical reason, my brain will not tolerate my body receiving IM injections! :(
      Copaxone Working / Worked
Copaxone has always worked well, although my doctors feel I need stronger medicine due to late stages of MS, Copaxone is well tolerated with little or no side effects!:)
      Solumedrol Working / Worked
Solumedrol has not only helped alot with the MS symptoms, it has also saved my life more than once while in Anaphylactic Shock as I am fatally allergic to Epinephrine!:)
    • Close Senior Dating & Sexuality

nJESUS hasn’t entered any details for this support group.
    • Open Amnesia

I am recovering from full-blown Clinical Amnesia. Doctors aren't sure which particular accident may have caused it, I have had so many, and am a survivor of violent crimes. It has been a real struggle, I have had to have physical therapy off and on due to 'forgetting' how to walk properly, had to remember and relearn how to hold and use certain kitchen utensils! There are, I'm sure, blessings in disguise with complete and immediate Amnesia, but there are also curses! I PTLord! I'm still live!:)

      Treatments

      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
With a combo. of pT and Play Therapy, often used to help children who have been victims of violent crimes, I have been able to recover a sm. part of my past life! PTL!:)
    • Open Migraine Headaches

I suffer from acute chronic Migraine Headache attacks, going in cycles from every day to only a few times per month, and have done so for many years now, if not most of my life! It would be nice to find a more permanent solution, or even a 'cure'!

      Treatments

      Aspirin Working / Worked
      Aspirin is sometimes helpful
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
Avoiding excess caffeine and cocoa (chocolate) does help, but I think STESS is a much bigger factor for me, as with certain cleaning chemicals.
      Imitrex Working / Worked
Imitrex has been most helpful, the tablet form works best for me, but the nasal spray usually does take effect faster.
      Imitrex Working / Worked
I have had to go into the ER (Emergency Room) countless times in my life to be treated for Migraines. It is no fun! Imitrex has almost always worked well for me!
    • Open Back Pain

I have a SCO (Spinal Cord Injury) from a head-on train collision in NC in 1993. Learning to live with the pain and disability has been very difficult, to say the least, and I have had PT, OT, Chiropractic care, and numerous medications. A good support system, with less stress, and a good attitude makes all the differences!

      Treatments

      Chiropractic Adjustment Working / Worked
Have had to have Chiropractic Adjustments in the past-after PT-to re-reverse all three spines, which were completely reversed on impact during a head-on train collision!
      Cortisone (Injection) Working / Worked
Cortisone I am allergic too, unfortunately, so can't remember how well it helped, or not
      Darvon Working / Worked
Darvon works great, short term, but can be addicting according to doctors. It worked well with me though where Morphine would not, as my body is totally immune to it!
      Fentanyl Working / Worked
Can't remeber how well Fentanyl worked, but it must have been at least ok, if not good
      Fioricet Working / Worked
Can't remeber how well Fioricet worked
      Hydrocodone Working / Worked
Hydrododone worked ok, but often caused upset stomach, thus needing more medicine!
      Ibuprofen Working / Worked
Ibuprofen works good, but NOT receommended for those with Asthma, or any kind of allergies.
      Physical Therapy Working / Worked
PT (and OT) was very painful alot of the time, but without it I may not have ever walked again! It's worth whatever one has to go through in order to fully recover!
    • Open Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Have suffered from Carpal Tunnel most of my life, usual occupation is Secretarial. I now work on computers, but also have MS (Multiple Sclerosis) which has made the Carpal tunnel even worse!

      Treatments

      Ibuprofen Not Working
Cannot use Ibuprofen anymore due to Asthama, but Tylenol ER (Extended Relief/ Arthritus Strength) works well, too, or else another antiinflammatory
      Wrist Splint Working / Worked
I have wrist/arm splints to wear on both arms at night, partly from the Carpal tunnel, partly from the MS. Works well, feels great!
    • Open Depression

Dx'd w/MAD (Major Depressive Disorder), have no other support system.

      Treatments

      Meditation Too Soon to Tell
Positive Thinking Too Soon to Tell
    • Open Financial Challenges

Attempting to survive on SSI w/huge unpaid medical bills not covered by insurance (due to MS, et al), have no support system, need some encouragement, and new ways to meet old challenges!

      Treatments

      Budgeting Somewhat Helpful
Budgeting is helpful, when I have support, encouragement, and practical help.
Cut Up Credit Cards Not Working
Due to lengthy, multiple hospitalizations and unpaid medical bills - cutting up my credit cards no longer helps, I simply cannot pay the bills!
