Will you still love me when I'm thin and beautiful?

My name is Marsha Evans. I am 46 years old, married (my husband, Sam, and I just celebrated our 20th year wedding anniversay last December.) with two sons (Shane - 16 and Bobby - 12). Until April, 2007, I was a third grade teacher. I was in the process of getting my Masters Degree in Gifted Education. Teaching young children was a passion of mine and I had enjoyed teaching for ten years. I was highly motivated to be all and give all that I had to my kids so that they could achieve. Art has also been a passion of mine all my life. Art reaches into a your soul and brings out the very essence of who you are. It screams to the world, "Here I am!" My students loved to create and anticipated each project, not for the outcome but for the process itself. It taught them social skills and self-worth -- two things children need desperately in order to achieve. On April 17, 2007, I was broad-sided on the passenger's side of my Jeep Cheroke as I was crossing Highway 49. The accident happened right in front of my school's playground. I was air-lifted by helicopter to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg with multiple injuries, one of which was a traumatic brain injury. I remained in a drug-induced coma for 7 days after which I was transported to Methodist Rehab Hospital in Jackson where I stayed for three weeks. I've since retired from teaching and am recovering daily. My cognitive abilities haven't been altered, but I have a hard time with multi-processing and short-term memory. To the world I look fully recovered. No scars .... No limp ... No physical handicaps. On the outside, I'm the same ole Marsha. On the inside I'm an emotional rollercoaster. I have the sensitivity of a ten year old. I can't handle noise and can't tolerate crowds. Just shopping at the grocery store is a major ordeal. I can't drive because of the multi-tasking issues. So, I am no longer self-sufficient/independent. But, I'm happy and content in my own little world.

Walking, talking and eating just not at the same time anymore :) A good laugh is better than any pill. I love to paint and work with beads but lack the focus "stay power" these days! I'm a ole time rocker so I love that old rock! Coffee is a mainstay at my house!

I am a 46 year old TBI survivor who was T-boned on the passenger side of my car April 19, 2007. Had to medically retire from teaching because of my sensitivity to stimulus of any kind. Bummer.
