Is my face red? A resounding YES!! I will use the excuse of fast , total complete galloping approaching senility. Yes he was A liberal & yes he tried to run but so sorry it was George McGovern who I voted for not Sen.. Eugene McCarthy. At least they belonged to the same party. Getting old is not easy. At least not for my mind. Well so it goes .
Well at least it wasn't the former Vice President Richard Nixon.
Also it was a crime how .
I also forgot am sorry & apologize to all the vets for not mentioning the horrid, cruel, shameful & disgusting treatment given to all returning heros. The veterans were treated like criminals on their return to their homeland. Their fellow Americans cursed at & spat on them . The horrible name baby-killers was a favorite name.
Most of the boys I knew were sent off to fight were They were there because of the draft. They were just boys out of their depth. They were scared boys dropped or rather dumped into the pure hell of a bloody war. Ill trained in the big rush to ship them off to untold horrors. They were not one of the privileged Senators sons. They had no power, no wealth ,no connection to shelter & protect them. So they regretfully took up the weapons of war. Some were volunteers who went out of devotion . But more went because their number was called . That is the sad truth of it.
It was the government that sent them off to battle & that didn't treat them as they should have. No better then bloody pawns on the battle scarred chess board of of war. The result of the unholy combination of a ruthless government, greedy big business & the insane notion war brings wealth to the chosen few . When their poor young shattered bodies, battered souls & their tortured nightmare riddled minds sought help to heal our sorry , shameful excuse for a government seemed to forget the debts owed to this courageous young men & women . Then as now once used up these brave sons & brave daughters sent off with great fanfare come back to short-term memory & our uncaring leaders Perhaps that is the greatest sin , the real evil & unpardonable act of any war. So my great thanks to all who have to fight our battles for us.
a red faced forgetful me

This is so true!! I have two brothers who fought in viet Nam and they only found heartache when they returned to the states. I still feel so badly for them. the horrid stories they tell of the conditions they fought under are horrific. I can't imagine how they must have felt. They even tell of bombs strapped to children and having to kill them in order to save their lives and the lives of their comrades. I cannot imagine how that must have felt or the impact it had on them, knowing they had children here in the states.
Thank you for thanking them. They definitely deserve mroe than they got.

The only good news to come out of that is that in this case, I believe we have learned by our history. I know a lot of people, and I am one of them, who are dead set against the Iraq war, but NO ONE disses the soldiers who are over there doing their job. They don't decide where to go or which war to fight.
Every single person I know makes it clear that they are against the WAR, not against the TROOPS.
I've seen a couple of the processions that spontaneously form when a soldier is being transported home - the people on the bridges and along the roadsides paying homage to their fallen brother, sister, neighbor, friend, and as heartbreaking a site as it is, it's also a reminder that this time we're doing it right.
Hate the war - not the soldiers - they are just doing a very difficult job and not the cause or involved in the politics or the war-mongering. That's those Senator's sons and the other well-heeled profiteers who benefit from keeping these things going. Being quite blunt about it, it's blood money and there must be a special place in the next life for those who partake.

I just wanna agree w/above
God Bless

I will have to say that WAR is never the answer!! I feel so bad for all the people who have lost their loved ones..fiancees, fathers, husbands, boyfriends, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters.....it is so senseless......when will we ever learn to get along in this greedy world??? I speak for the politicians and it is to their shame that thay cannot come up with better solutions.....granted we cannot control what other countries do and war is sometimes a necessary evil but I think it is evil!!!!! I hate war!! I stand behind all of our troops nevertheless and pray for God to keep them all safe from harm and bring them safely home!!!!!
