Close Peptic Ulcers
In the past 10 years, I've been hospitalized 6 times with bleeding ulcers severe enough to lower my hemoglobin below 8 g/dL, thus transfusions have been required in all six instances -- usually in excess of 2 units, one time it required 8 units.
Treatments
- Carafate Working / Worked
- This was for an ulcer more than 20 years ago that was not bleeding. It seemed to work.
- Pepcid Not Working
- I took Pepcid Complete in an attempt to save some money over the cost of Prilosec -- bad move. I had a recurrence of my bleeding ulcer within a year.
- Prilosec Working / Worked
- I have been taking Prilosec OTC on a daily basis for the past 2.5 years & have not had a recurrence.
- Protonix Working / Worked
- I was taking Protonix prior to Prilosec, but my insurance company wouldn't cover it unless Prilosec didn't work.
