Journal Entry for February 12, 2007 Mood
Monday, February 12, 2007
Ok, Now the smoking isn't a problem minus a couple cravings a day it's time to take on a BIG problem, my weight. I need to lose at least 70 pounds. I don't know how to go about this, I know about the cardiac and diabetic diets but I'm afraid of simple exercise. When my heart starts pumping more than usual palputation time, then freak out time. I thought my lungs would be ready by now I guess they need some help,I still can't breath and the heart thing scares me to death! I have a treadmill but it doesn't have a heart monitor on it,I guess I'll just start out slow and easy and build up. Anyone have any suggestions? I need to go to the pharmacy and get anxeity meds first I'm out and the Dr. I saw in Ky. said to never be without them but my doctor wrote something else on the same script and they won't fill just half and I don't have all the money. I'm going to take my disability papers in and show then all the mental disorders I have and see if that makes a difference. My daughter says it will cause they will think I'll go postal lol. OK back to the subject loosing weight, any suggestions would be great. Mary

Mary, my husband has the same anxiety about exercise that you do. He has heart palpatations everytime he does any exercise. Just start walking. Start really slow and increase it every two weeks just a little bit farther.
    Hope this helps a little.

I agree with the above. If you have a treasmil just start out walking slowly and for as long and you can and just try to increase that by a few minutes as you feel comfortable to do so! Your lungs will heal wuicker than I thought possiblr, though it does take time! I have been alking for almost 6 weeks now slowly working my way up to running just adding in little bits as I go! Hope that helps.

I have a watch (about $20 at Wal-Mart) that tells me my heart rate. It is great. I also saw a exercise physisist (sp?) and he said that he was going to put me on the heart patient routine even though I'm not a heart patient. Anyway, he said only get my heartrate up to 121 and then keep it there. He said only to walk on the treadmill for about 12 mintues for the first 2 weeks. Then slowly increase my heartrate and time-REAL SLOWLY. Maybe you could try that.

Being a fibro, exercise is quite an issue. And I have had many suggestions on getting going. I really found the best way for me, is starting out doing some very gentle stretches (approx. 10 minutes a day). What is nice about this is, you begin being more flexible and feel more like moving. I had a massage therapist tell me, if I could only go to the mailbox and back; do that several days and take a few more steps from there. Just always make sure you allow enough engery to get back.
Hope this will help you. I just started a program "eating for your blood type"...and I am really doing well on it. I do seem to have more energy. Take care. Hope to hear from you!!!!
With God all things are possible. Without the LORD I don't know where I would; I just know it wouldn't be good. I'll be keeping you in my prayers.
