    About Me

I write as a newspaper reporter and work part-time in our family's furniture store. I'm married to a great guy, James, and have a daughter Lorrie Anne, 23, who is finishing her doctorate at law school, University of Texas at Austin. I also have a son, Logan, 18. James' son, Daniel, (we share, so gramma me, too) is 22 and has a son, Brayden. I grew up showing Quarter Horses, hated school although I got straight A's with not much effort, and have a Mom and Dad still married to eachother. My youngest brother is the same age as my Lorrie Anne, and I also have a sis, and another brother--I'm oldest. Let's see, I'm a cool person, love people, love to talk and have a hungry mind. I enjoy nature, gardening, writing, reading, and strive to just keep on keepin' on. I found DS while searching for support for depression and anxiety/panic disorder. I have fibromyalgia.

    Interests

MMmmmm, other interests that I haven't mentioned are collecting books, collecting miniatures ( I have hundreds, and shadow boxes, curios, etc. to display them. ) I love antiques--wanna go to the Antiques Roadshow. And flea markets, antique stores--they're a blast to go to. I like theatre, that sort of thing, and the arts, as well, although I live in a small, rural area and don't have much of that available. I have been a caregiver, love that, and enjoy helping and caring for those in need. I think I'd make a great Psychiatrist, but as of yet haven't stuck with school enough to get even my Associate's degree. Life isn't over, though!

    • Close Diets & Weight Maintenance

I maintained an 80 pound weight loss, happily and healthily a size 4, for over five years. Then, I began to gain weight, even though I wasn't eating ALOT more calories. I became severely depressed (spent about a year not really functioning--bed, couch, and eat, eat, eat.) To make a long story shorter, late in November I was found to have an extremely low thyroid-alarmingly so. I've been on medication for four months, feel SO much better, bu have 65 pounds and am so miserable. Out of shape.

      Treatments

Counting Calories Too Soon to Tell
I know HOW to lose, the thyroid is throwing a wrench in..but I've started a journal, reduced calories and exercise plan, just yesterday! I can get my body back! (With help from friends...)
Eating Healthier Foods Working / Worked
Healthier foods, calorie reduction, lower portions has worked in my past!
      Eat Less Working / Worked
I certainly worked for me in the past. I just need to get hold of myself, and dig in and stick to a strict plan. I wobble.
    • Close Hypothyroidism

I have had quite a ride with my thyroid. Before diagnosis, it caused severe depression, social withdrawl and lots of weight gain. I began treatment in late November; we're still trying to regulate.

      Treatments

      Synthroid Working / Worked
Since Nov. 30, 2007, I'm feeling better, but blood tests indicate my thyroid is still low, so the Dr. just keeps upping my dose. I am having trouble with weight--I gained so much.
    • Open Bereavement
      Type: Loss of a Relative

I have such a heart for all that have lost anyone to death. I cannot imagine going on without my child.it so sad that so many in their 40s have lost their mates. I want to be a friend, pray for those in such pain.Jesus lives, and wants to carry you and your pain, that's all that might help for how long...? I lost my beloved Granny four years ago-it's spring,we had a fine crop of foals and flowers by now. I grew up in her hip pocket. I still hurt very much.

      Treatments

      Crying Working / Worked
I especially miss Granny in Spring. I wish I'd taken more time..it went so fast. Crying still happens, and I feel better after.
      Pets Working / Worked
I still have a fine Quarter Horse she gave me; I planted her Iris bulbs, it is wonderful to remember her through my animal and her pride-2 acres of Iris.
      Prayer Working / Worked
Without the Lord,I would not be merciful, able to want to help others, or have wonderful memories. He is My Strength and Refuge.
      Remembering Working / Worked
At Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners, only I was allowed in the kitchen with my Granny. She was so proud of her little cowgirl, and the woman I became.
    • Open Tinnitus

I have nearly no hearing ability in my left ear...I remember being treated for a sinus infection, but it never cleared in that ear. Now it's deaf, but I still HEAR ringing, "the ocean rushing sound," and beeeeeeep...constantly.

    • Open Depression
      Type: Clinical (Major) Depression

I have battled depression off and on throughout my life, but for the past couple years or so, it is very bad.

      Treatments

      Celexa Working / Worked
      Cymbalta Working / Worked
Seems it's not working as effectifely anymore
      Lexapro Working / Worked
      Prozac Working / Worked
      Seroquel Working / Worked
Support from Friends & Family Working / Worked
      don't have
      Trazodone Working / Worked
      Zoloft Working / Worked
    • Open Fibromyalgia

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1994, after I hit two deer and severely injured my body. The diagnosis of "post-trauma Fibromyalgia" was made two years later; I struggle with hypothyroidism as well, depression and anxiety.

      Treatments

      Cyclobenzaprine Not Working
Helps with sleep, that's about it.
      Cymbalta Working / Worked
Been on this over two years, and yes, I think it helped with pain and flare-ups. I think I need to be assessed for another treatment, however; Cymbalta has lost its effectiveness.
      Duragesic Patch Working / Worked
Had to use these the first couple years after injury. Yuck I hate strong meds like ths...I had mood swings, hot flashes, and after being found to be allergic to Morphine, felt that these were not a good deal. Never used again. Just too much.
      Heat Working / Worked
Sometimes this helps, but I do get better relief from ice pack therapy.
      Morphine Not Working
I am allergic to Morphine, although I didn't know until back surgery in 01. They inserted my IV while I was still under anesthesia; I had an anyphylactic reaction. I wear a bracelet detailing the allergy.
      Neurontin Not Working
I don't remember it being of much benefit, although I gave it awhile.
      TENS Not Working
      Gave me the willies: anxiety.
      Ultram Not Working
Like taking a piece of "candy,"--absolutely no effect at all.
      Robaxin Somewhat Helpful
Another muscle relaxant. I think if I take it regularly during a bad time three x a day then it keeps things from going wayyy over the top. But side effects are dizziness a bit of nausea. ??
