MARCH DVT Awareness Month
The DVT Awareness Month has been a slight bit of a let down this year. Other then a couple of Melanie Bloom appearances on TV and news …
I suffered my first DVT back in 1992. While hospitalized I was also diagnosed with having a Pulmonary Embolism. The cause of the blood clot was never determined. In 1995, during a two-day mountain bike race up at Sugarloaf, Maine, I suffered another DVT. In 1996 I was diagnosed has having Factor V Leiden (Homozygous) and also found to have elevated Homocysteine levels. This led to a long road of self-education myself about my newly diagnosed medical condition. It also inspired me to help other patients through the creation of a Non-Profit Patient Advocacy Organization. I am Retired Military, having served 20 years in the U.S. Naval Submarine Force. I'm happily Married and have two young children (both who have FVL).

Thanks for the newsletter....Hope
Thank you so much for your support. The link you provided was extremely interesting and informative. I have been feverishly trying to educate myself about this issue since I left the hospital. Although the doctors I have dealt with have seemed very competent and well meaning, the lack of education regarding DVT and PE is astounding. I like many people hear had no idea what my recovery and future entailed until I found it for myself. Having an undergraduate degree in public health education makes me even more aware of what is lacking. I am very interested in the "Stop the Clot" organization and NATT. I will read through the sites to become better informed. Is there anyway I can become involved to help this cause? I live in Maryland and can see NIH and the Naval Hospital from my office window. I sure there are things going on there that need support. Again, thank you for spreading the word.
a big thankyou ... very interesting
Thanks for the link on DVT.
thanks for the advice
While serving on active duty in the U.S. Navy I suffered two unexplained DVTs (1992 and 1995). I also suffered a PE (1992). Was diagnosed with FVL (homozgyous) in 1996. Am currently involved as a national patient advocate for DVT Awareness
Suffered DVT and PE in 1992, then another DVT in 1995. Was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden (Homozygous) and hyperhomocysteinemia in 1996.
