About Me
I am married and the mom to a great son who is 17. My husband is a compulsive spendaholic (auction sites mainly .. to feed his collection habit) but he is trying to curb and control it. I also have been living daily with chronic illness and disability thanks to lupus and a severe back injury and now a brainstem lesion.

I read your post on the tectal glioma page and replied with a whole bunch of information that I have picked up along the way during my family's experience with this same condition. Please check back and read what I have written. I hope you are doing well and know that we're thinking of you.

Prayer
I will pray for your dad heather. My fateh was diagnosed May 17, 2008. He had the whipple only 10 days later, the surgeon said it was a matter of life and death. He has lost 60 pounds in only less than 5 months. But he is doing chemo and seems to be doing okay. I'm here if u want to chat. Good Luck Natasha

Hi Heather, I want to thank you for your response to my post on using Valtrex for suppressive therapy for shingles. How are you doing? I am so sorry that you have had to go through having shingles so many times. It is a horrible disease. I still have spots in my eyebrow after 6 weeks that are red and itchy. They just won't go away. My doctor doesn't seem to know much about shingles, so I am trying to find another doctor. I just want to get well at this point. I have been in pain and out of work for 7 weeks now. I am not sure why it is taking so long to heal and my doctor really doesn't seem to care. What kind of doctors are the best for treating shingles? I don't know if there is something wrong with my immune system and want to be checked, but my regular doctor said that ther was no need as my blood work done 1 year ago was normal. Hope that you are doing a little better and healing.

Hope things are going well. Thinking of you!

Treatments
- Patience Too Soon to Tell
- I fear I am at the end of my rope with patience for this situation. I keep hoping if I hold out a bit longer it will get better.
- Psychotherapy Too Soon to Tell
- I have done some. My hubby agreed to go but then I had to do the majority of the leg work to get him in the door - extremely frustrating but something had to be done.. he is spending way over our means.
- Talking Not Working
- I thought we had an agreement years ago.. now I find he has been hiding income and purchases while spending us into the poor house.
Close Pancreatic Cancer
My dad was just diagnosed this past winter. He was told he's stage 2 (but he does have lymph involvement as well as artery involvement (but not infiltrated.) He's done 1 round of chemo with hopes of a Whipple in May. However, May's PET showed no change and continued artery involvement. So now he is doing 2 different chemo drugs and radiation was nixed (too large a tumor and they didn't want to damage the healthy tissue nearby). So.. we are playing a long waiting game.
Open Shingles
Hi, I am a 38 year old with chronic lupus who has battled shingles (5 times in my ears, throat and mouth) 6 times in less than 3 years. I am finishing (I hope) my 6th bout and looking for anyone who has dealt with this more than once. Thanks
Treatments
- Valtrex Working / Worked
- I take large doses of Valtrex on a daily basis as a preventative. I broke through at 1 gram (which had been my maintenance dose since this whole mess started) and I am now on 3 grams a day (anything less and they come back).Obviously since I have had 5 more bouts since I began the preventative it only works so well. But I believe it would have been worse otherwise... much worse.
Open Sjogren's Syndrome
I am a 38yr. old mom with Lupus and Sjogrens. I have been diagnosed since 1993 and have had several different issues due to these diseases including chronic shingles.
Open Brain / CNS Tumors
Type: OtherI was found to have a brain stem lesion (in my superior tectum) this month. I am currently waiting to see a neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins.
