    • Shout Out

      From tomcatmother November 15

Get out! My Dr has the disease, his wife has it, he uses more natural approaches which is helpful, but I see a pain Dr who prescribes Vicoprofen..helps a lot..I totally understand where you're coming from.
Retro a little-in 2000 needed narcotics, on a lot of meds, went to a new gyno who wanted me off all of them to try to start from scratch to see what was causing what-long term hysterectomy pain..it was good, but the pain was still there-put me in medical detox! OMG It's really tough to get through..now I'm still on narcotics, 8 years later..I think some Dr's are afraid to prescribe too much medication which makes it hard to manage, bc one drug does one thing, and the other does another and before long what is doing what?? Hang in there! Keep searching for an answer no matter how many dr's it takes to get what you need girl, take in what they say and apply it to your own situation. I was put in an outpatient intensive phych program bc they said it was all in "my head". It's so unfair. Just because they can't measure the pain, you must be imagining it...what a bunch of bunk. unbelievable. Support from TX..hugs, Kim T

    • I’m With You

      From peggel01 October 26

I was told I had fibro in 2000 but it's been with me for alot longer. Up untill last October (I was living in the only ciry in Iowa, Des Moines) and was being treated by a pain specialist. things were good, I just didn't know how good! He gave my medication I took it and was able to function well enuogh to do the dishes, and laundry etc. but because my 4 kids lived in Waterloo. I decided to move there and but a house. Fibro was one of the main reasons I got my SSI. Now it's been a year and I have pretty much fallen apart, The doctors here don't give narcotics. The only one that I'm not allergic to or throw up on is vicodin. I went from Doctor to doctor and they all said the same thing no. And I have recently found out that not one of those doctors even requested my medical records from Des Moines. I am gonna go call him now cuz I may have found a doctor that actually cares. I'll let you know. Also know that you are not alone. Peg

I started having severe indigestion problems at the early age of 13, and it has continued with me.

      Treatments

      Antacids Somewhat Helpful
About half and half, if I catch my indigestion early then these meds will help to stave off any following indigestion for a few hours.
Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
This works very well to stop indigestion in the first place, or to reduce it once it has begun. Avoidng anything like tomato sauces, no acidic drinks. Low Acid Orange Juice works great.
      Pepcid Working / Worked
I will take this when Antacids fail, but when a Zegerid/Protonix treatment is not necessary.
      Pepto-Bismol Somewhat Helpful
      Rarely this will help.
      Prilosec Working / Worked
They seem to help when taken short term. Over long term treatments they seemed to loose their effectiveness.
      Protonix Working / Worked
Same story as with Zegerid. It will work short term, but long term treatments with this medication seem to loose their effectiveness. I have to stop use of the medication, and resume at a later time when needed.
Raising Bed Position Working / Worked
I will elevate my head and back when I'm have very bad indigestion, it can help to put me to sleep.
      Tagamet Not Working
For some reason this medication never worked for me, even early on. Oddly enough Pepcid will work, but not Tagamet.

    • Open Anxiety

Began having problems with anxiety by the age of 13, beginning of our teenage years. It has stuck with me since then... General Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Panic Attacks. Some days are better then others, over the years I have grown more capable of handling myself better with and with out the aid of medication or types of therapy.

      Treatments

      Atarax Working / Worked
Only helps slightly for anxiety, I actually take it for it's anti-nausea effects.
      Breathing Exercises Somewhat Helpful
Only helps on a momentary basis.
      Inderal Not Working
Does not work for my Anxiety. But did once aid in relieving my Migraines years ago.
      Lexapro Somewhat Helpful
Targeted more at helping my depression, then that of my anxiety. Initial tiredness has been a side effect on my 2nd attempt at taking this medication.
      Paxil Working / Worked
Took Paxil on 2 different occasions in my life, worked rather well both times. Horrible With Drawls, not an easy thing to go through at all with this medication specifically.
      Positive Thinking Somewhat Helpful
Doesn't always fool the mind quiet well enough. You have to want to be upbeat in order to convince yourself.
      Remeron Somewhat Helpful
Worked more for depression then for Anxiety. Side Effects were eating like a PIG! And extreme tiredness.
      Xanax Working / Worked
Works well, on a temporary basis. I only take it as needed, not every day.
      Zoloft Not Working
