    • Close Endometriosis

I have never had any cycle related problems - really, no cramps or anything!! That was, until five years ago . . .a large endometrioma on my right ovary burst and I had emergency surgery. I had a follow up surgery that resulted in a diagnosis of severe stage IV endo. I have been on supression with OC since then and completed 1 (challenging!) year on Femara in 2007. I am currently pain free and have been for about two years!! Yay!!!

      Treatments

Extended-Cycle Birth Control Working / Worked
I have been on Seasonale (continuously) for five years - it seems to be working fine with only only two bothersome side effects. 1 - I have brown splotches all over my face especially on my upper lip, which resembles a mustache when I get any sun on it. 2 - I have an incrediby sensitive sense of smell. Strong flowers, perfumes, etc . . .make me instantly and incredibly queasy.
      Femara Working / Worked
Well, we won't know if it worked unless I have problems in the future. I was on it for 12 months - the side effects were horrible. I gained about 35 pounds, was very fatigued, had hot flashes, night sweats, joint pain, depression, nausea, headaches, hair loss, and difficulty sleeping. It took about 6 months for the side effects to totally cease. I am really struggling to lose the weight I gained and feel like I am still fatigued more easily than before the treatment.
      Surgery Working / Worked
Laparoscopy to remove baseball-sized endometrioma (aka chocolate cyst). Cyst was removed and ovary was left in tact and fully functional.

      Treatments

      Running Working / Worked
I always feel better when I choose to squeeze a run into my day.
    • Open Healthy Eating

I have been a vegetarian for 18 years!! Wow . . . it doesn't seem like nearly that long. I avoid processed foods along with dairy. I feel MUCH better when I don't consume dairy products. I eat consciously as often as I can. I always feel at my best when my diet is as "clean" as possible.

      Treatments

      Organic Diet Somewhat Helpful
I buy/eat organic when I can. I make a special effort to buy produce that would be difficult to clean well to avoid all of the chemicals applied during the growing season.
      Physical Exercise Somewhat Helpful
