OH MY GOSH!!!!!!! Mood
Wednesday, July 1, 2009 | A Rambling story

Well today was just a frustrating morning all around and it ended at the doctor's with a rather irritating appointment.  The last two appointments, I had lost weight each week to the tune of about 3.5 pounds.  So they have me drinking ENSURE drinks and such and are worrying about me loosing TOO much weight.  So today I go in there expecting to have either lost more or at least stayed the same.  BUT NO!  I hop on the scale only to be told I've gained....wait for it..... TEN AND A HALF POUNDS!  That's right. 6 days - 10.5 pounds.  I was PISSED!

Then we go into the exam room and they take my blood pressure....it's elevated to a not cool range.  WELL NO DUH!?!?!  You just told me I gained over 10 pounds in 6 days....YOUR blood pressure would be a bit high too wouldn't it!  I was now REALLY pissed.  I have done so good this whole pregnancy and now my weight jumps on me....YEESH!  The doc keeps telling me that this kind of weight gain this suddenly and this late in teh pregnancy is all water and there is NOTHING I can do about it so stop worrying.  Yeah right...says the man who doesn't EVER have to worry about breastfeeding that weight away.  He then proceeds to give me a vaginal exam that (and I'm NOT exaggerating here) I literally asked him if I had cavities afterwards!  I SWEAR it felt like was going to climb in and camp out there.  I was DYING it hurt so bad.  I'm only 1.5 centimeters dilated though so no real cervical change.  Then he tells me to lay down on my side...think zen thoughts....breathe and relax and they are going to re-check my blood pressure before I leave.  So fine.....I hurdly my big pregnant butt back into my pants, and proceed to lay..;..on my side....on the super hard exam bed while my back screams at me and contemplate just exactly how big my BUTT will be should I continue to gaine 10 pounds a week in the coming 2 weeks.  They retake my blood pressure and it is lower, which is good, but still not great.

I ask him how long he'll let me go and he said that without any other factors he'd let me go up to 3 more weeks before inducing me....that's only 1 week past my due date.  BUT, he then says, given the sudden water weight and blood pressure they are now watching me for pre-eclampsia signs.  If that continues, he'll induce me anytime now to avoid complications. He then tells me...AGAIN...not to worry about the weight that there was nothing I did to cause it and nothing I could do to remedy it.  Just to relax, avoid salty foods, and otherwise just not worry.  He then follows up all the "don't worry" comments with a passing, oh by the way I'd like your bp checked again on Friday....yes it's a holiday so I want you to go to L&D for that...I'll make the appointment what time can I tell them to expect you.

So basically - don't worry - but HE'S gonna worry and make me go to the hospital for it.  ARGH!  Hubby and I are also likely going to have our packed hospital bag with us just in case they decide to induce then.....who knows.  I could have a July 4th baby at this point if my BP keeps this up!  ;-)

Oh that sounds so frustrating. 10lbs in 6 days wow that would make anyone take a second look. It does sound like it's only water which is good just hoping preemcalmpsia isn't an issue. Keep us updated

That is frustrating. I never gained that much but if it makes you feel better I gained 7 pounds of water weight in 2 weeks at the very end. The nice thing though is that it comes off just as quickly (the water weight that is). You are so close and I can't wait to see your little man.

I hope things work out for you. Sounds very frustrating. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the internal exams either. I'm dialated to 3cm now and was terried to see the male doctor yesterday. I see two doctors and the last 2 appointments where they did internal exams were luckily with the female. I think as you begin to dialate more it won't hurt as much. It wasn't too bad with the male doctor this week. I was relieved. I'm so antsy to have my baby too. I'm due the 9th. I'm 3cm, 90%, and -1. I wish he'd come early. Not sure what's gonna happen. Hang in there and remember we do all this to nurture our baby. Don't worry about the weight gain and keep your thoughts on your baby's well being. Can't wait to hear when you have your baby!!! Best of luck.

I'm sure everything will be OK and he is just being extra cautious-after all you have precious cargo on board. But I think it's a good idea to have your hospital bag all packed and ready just in case! Think happy thoughts that baby will be here soon and all this chaos will be a distant memory!

Almost done- at least no more bed rest! Internal exams- yikes on those. When in labor, a resident checked me half way through and I swear pushed so hard I was 6 inches higher in the bed when he left. After the epi- they could've moved in up there and I never would've known . . . something to keep in mind:)!

That is frustrating, but the weight will come off quickly. You'll be holding your little man so soon!
