    • About Me

I am an eternally optimistic person. I have had Type 1 diabetes for 28 years and done very well with it. I had MRSA about 4 years ago, and my health has gone down hill since then. I also believe that I developped fibromyalgia around the same time that I had the MRSA. Since then I have lost two jobs that I really loved due to my poor health. I have been living with my lovely partner for 12 years, but we have been together for 13.5 years. She is struggling with my health issues as I am. We have a woderful 7 year old son who is the light of our lives!

    • Interests

My family is my number one interest! If I find that I do not have the strength or energy to do more than one thing in a day, then I prefer that be something with my family. My career has been working with people with autism, early intervention, and I absolutely loved it! I love working with children who think and learn in different ways, I always learn something new and they are just wonderful! I have also worked as a case manager for people with Developmental Disabilities. I enjoyed that as well. I love music -- classic rock, country, reggae, afrian drums, some pop music, some dance music -- very eclectic taste! I love to read -- Iris Johansen, Dean Koontz, Dalai Lama, research on my health concerns, James Patterson. I love to have good debates over important issues, though I do not like resorting to name calling and emotional arguments.

    • Close Fibromyalgia

I am newly diagnosed with FM, in the last month or so. I have been living with the fatigue and pain for years. I have been on Cymbalta for 3 years for depression. Glad to be here with others!

      Treatments

      Baclofen Working / Worked
It has been offering some relief for the pain
      Oxycodone Working / Worked
I use this as a last resort on those days when I feel that I cannot make it through the day any other way due to the pain.
    • Close Obesity

I am 40 years old and have a long list of medical conerns, my weight is a big one! I hope to draw inspiration and support here!

      Treatments

South Beach Diet Working / Worked
      Topamax Working / Worked
      Weight Watchers Working / Worked
    • Open Diabetes Type 1

I have had Type1 for 28 years. I am relatively complication free and would love to talk with others about this disease!

      Treatments

      Humalog Working / Worked
This works better than any other insulin that I have ever tired!
      Insulin Pump Working / Worked
I have been on the pump for about 8 years and wish I had tried it sooner. I can't imagine life without it!
    • Open Anxiety

I have generalized anxiety disorder. I have many other health problems that contribute to my anxiety. I am looking for ways to handle it better.

      Treatments

      Ativan Not Working
It made me dizzy and sleepy, so I stopped using it.
      Breathing Exercises Working / Worked
When I feel myself starting to get anxious this works if I remember to breathe.
      Klonopin Somewhat Helpful
It helped some, but I did not like that I could become adicted to it so I stopped taking it.
      Lexapro Not Working
It worked for a while but I stopped feeling the effects after a while.
      Xanax Working / Worked
It works the best of anything I have tried with no side effects. It can be addicting so I only use it when everything else fails!
      Cymbalta Working / Worked
I use this antidepressant and it seems to be working for depression as well as for my anxiety.
    • Open Migraine Headaches

I have had migraines for over 20 years. In 11-2007 I had an intractible migraine for a whole month and could not work. I have since gone to a Headache Clinic and started some supplements.

      Treatments

Avoid Certain Foods / Chemicals Working / Worked
I have decreased my caffeine intake and avoid strong odors on a regular basis. I have also found that I cannot eat cheddar cheese and raw onions and msg. I still enjoy other cheeses, but the cheddar gets me every time!
      Excedrin Working / Worked
This works well if I take it as soon as I feel the headache start.
      Fioricet Working / Worked
It used to work but no longer works.
      Imitrex Working / Worked
It worked for years, but it's effectiveness wore off and does not work any longer.
      Magnesium Working / Worked
I take this nightly and it works wonderfully to help prevent migraines. I am now up to 1000mg nightly. What I take is a potassium/magnesium aspartate supplement.
      Midrin Working / Worked
This is now what I take to relieve my migraines when they occur.
      Topamax Working / Worked
I take 200mg at night to prevent migraines. I take all at night due to the "swiss cheese" effect on my memory if I take any during the day.
      Frova Working / Worked
I just added this to my arsenal and this works much better than any other pill to rid me of a migraine when they occur!
    • Open Health Care Reform

I have a laundry list of medical problems. I cannot work currently due to my health and am forced to pay for a COBRA to maintain any medical insurance. We will probaby have to move in with my mother which means leaving a wonderful school district and uprooting my son. This stinks!
