What a busy weekend.

Saturday I went hiking some trails with a friend, wandered around a very interesting mound site in the middle of the woods.  It appears to me to be an old medicine wheel or something-- there are stones at North, South, East, West, and in the center, as well as other markers-- very cool..  My friend mapped it out and even had a compass and the stone formations were very accurate.  It is just too perfect to be coincidence.

After that, we wandered around a pond and watched some geese and such.  THEN Scotts dog Lobie found a young porcupine that was too interesting not to investigate.  We spent the remainder of the time trying to remove the quills-  maybe 10-12 from his muzzle area.

We didn't have any pliers or anything at the time, so we headed back to his place to get pliers.  Then we had the dog on his back on the ground, with me strattling and laying on him, and Scott at his muzzle trying to get the quills out.  I suspect it looked like we were sacrificing the poor dog or something!  But we got all but one, which broke off-- and Scott was able to get that one today.

My adventure for today was to go to Sonenburg Gardens in Canandaigua NY-  a beautiful mansion on (I think) 50 acres, with about 12 or so different gardens, green houses, etc.  It was beautiful.  We got done at the gardens and mansion then headed to the little restaurant on the site, and when we were eating it rained.  so we didn't get wet- I guess we timed it pretty well!  Then we did the gift shop and wine tasting.

it was a very fun day, and I got a lot of pictures.  I'll have to put a couple on here when I get them downloaded to the computer.  My favorite garden is either the Japanese garden or the "rock" (more like huge boulders) garden.  Both were absolutely beautiful.

Well-- that's been my weekend, and other than the porcupine incident, it was wonderful!  Pretty hot and muggy weather, but nice none the less.

Sounds like fun, except for the hot and muggy weather. Our dogs wanted to play with a porcupine too. Never seems to work the way the dogs want, does it?
If your friend's interested in archeology, maybe he'd like to read "America B.C." it's about the area the US is in now.
