and "Get over it!" are a couple of the most ignorant things you can say to someone who has bipolar or depression. Usually this is said by someone well-meaning--I've even seen it said by someone on a depression website (not this one) in response to a poem posted by one of my friends there. She had written about the sad memories she had of her childhood. But I think that, if they're not the worst, they're among the worst things you can say to persons battling either of these conditions--which can be as bad as cancer if not dealt with properly. You can't snap out of or get over a bad mood from depression or bipolar as if by flicking a switch. Both conditions have biochemical causes which means people must use medication--which is often a lengthy process of trying the right meds until they find the right combination to do the job without causing bothersome side-effects. Speaking as a person withbipolar I have to say that I need patience--even thought there are times I've trouble being patient with others (LOL!)
