Saturday I found a slip in my mailbox saying I had a certified letter I had to pick up at the post office. It was from my mortgage company--and I knew what it would be about--the foreclosure on my home. Because I'm behind by 2 payments of $205 and change. Which doesn't sound too bad, and I was able to meet when I was working without even being late, but I can't manage on my unemployment. The letter demands patment for June and July, plus whatever I'll be behind on in August.
Also, my latest gas/electricity bill is over $251 and change because last month was what they call "settlement month." June's bill was over $237, and on the level payment plan I'd have to pay $164 per month. A big chunk out of unemployment that comes to a mere $466 per month.
I went to the Salvation Army for help with the mortgage and got energy assistance through LIHEAP, and am grateful for what I got from them which is better than nothing. Also, I get Food Stamps, which help a lot.
And I can't get a job because there's nothing around here I'm able to do. I'm currently appealing Social Security's decision on my disability claim.
So I'm looking for some good ideas or advice--and I don't mean anything like play the Lotto.

I am so sorry for what is happening to you. I just can't believe what is going on in this country. Is there any way you can put the gas bill on hold or pay a smaller amount so you can catch up on your mortgage? Have you tried talking to the bank? I wish I had better advice but all I can do is pray for you.

I wish I had some good ideas for you, but you've done everything that I would've thought to do. Hang in there...I'll be praying for you.

Oh man. I had no idea that you were going thru this. Could you check the local Churches? Womens group that are local? Maybe the county? I know that I have heard that there is a place that will pay 1 time all of your bills. I think if you start at the churches - they can get you to the right place. I will continue to keep my ears open and check on the internet. Please keep me posted my friend.

Gecko is right start checking with some local churches and see if they can assist you.Try talking to your mortgage holder and see if they will consider working with you on the rears.
Prayer moves things I will pray that god make a way where there seems to be no way.
Iam here for you my friend.

Chills...I got chills reading this.
What a horrid time you have had.
Yes...check on all the above suggestions.
From what I read on your profile page, it sounds like you have made a decision to move into an apartment.
I wish you whatever is best for you.
From my understanding, Social Security does refuse almost every claim the first time. Sometimes, the second time, too.
You can get a lawyer.
There is not an initial charge.
They do take...I think 25 percent of your retroactive settlement.
The good thing is that they do most of the work...hopefully.
It is very helpful to have doctors notes and medical records to help with the appeal.
Keep a record of your symptoms and try and journal some information about each day. Write down your struggles, whatever you have trouble resolving.
Eating..or overeating...inertia...confusion...dizziness...dark thoughts..
It is all very invasive. but you must meet a certain number of criteria.
Like if you gained or lost a huge amount of weight, can't take care of your daily domestic chores...struggles to maintain or resolve financial issues...and some others like suicidal tendencies...yep, they want all the good thoughts written down...wish I remembered how many you need to qualify, or what they are. It can just be a list of a few words that prompt you to remember what you had trouble with. Doesn't have to be a novelette.
Much good luck to you.
